Title: Pixeloids4k Post by: Morre on February 28, 2009, 05:57:27 AM My last entry for this year's Java4k (http://www.java4k.com) contest is a shape-matching puzzle game called Pixeloids4k.
The game is available as applet and webstart: Applet (http://www.x2d.org/java/4k/pixeloids4k.html) Webstart (http://www.x2d.org/java/4k/pixeloids4k.jnlp) The goal is to move the goo so that 95% of it is inside the target areas. To do this, you click your mouse to create little shockwaves. Title: Re: Pixeloids4k Post by: Eclipse on February 28, 2009, 06:02:53 AM tried during the "beta" :D and as i said i've found it quite fun, very good job for a 4k entry

Title: Re: Pixeloids4k Post by: cactus on February 28, 2009, 06:51:01 AM I really like the look of the game, the colours are crisp and the dotted lines create a nice style. The concept is quite cool too, I don't think I've seen a game that uses the same mechanics before. I hope you do well in the competition
That said, I'm not that big a fan of puzzle games, so once I lost I kind of quit playing. I would've probably enjoyed the game more if it had been modified to be a little bit more action oriented. For instance, it would've been cool to use the goo mechanics to do a The Blob-like game, where you have to trap tiny people running around and absorb them to become bigger. And at the same time maybe there'd be stuff that hurt the goo, like exploding trucks, things that caught fire or whatever. I'm sure a lot of casual / puzzle gamers will love it the way it is though :handthumbsupL: Title: Re: Pixeloids4k Post by: Eclipse on February 28, 2009, 08:54:42 AM For instance, it would've been cool to use the goo mechanics to do a The Blob-like game, where you have to trap tiny people running around and absorb them to become bigger. Title: Re: Pixeloids4k Post by: Morre on February 28, 2009, 09:12:16 PM Sadly, it's a bit short. I'm out of space and time, contest ends today! :/
If people like it I might try making a bigger version after the contest :) Title: Re: Pixeloids4k Post by: narasu on March 01, 2009, 12:06:36 PM I beat it before I even realized
