For some reason, I always buy or download games that I suck at. They are very hard for me. They are always really fun, but I always get stuck.

I also loved but sucked at Viewtiful Joe, Melee, ExciteTruck, Geometry Wars: Galaxies, SOME Zelda games, and Noitu Love (i rock at the second one).

Eternal Daughter is the only one I can think of offhand. I could never get past the first area, but would love to see the rest of the game.

Every game, especially the following:

- FPSs... I used to be really good at games like Halo and Unreal Tournament, and then my aim died around the time I became a woman. Coincidence?
- Spelunky. Jesus.
- Any game where I have to jump from platform to platform to avoid falling to my death. Instant fail.
- Hitman.
- Pirates Vikings Knights; I can only avoid suck as a bowman.
- Ninja Gaiden, obviously.
- Guitar Hero/Rockband (only singing is a viable option for me).
- Any Prince of Persia title, but especially Warrior Within. I always use all my sand.
- racing games.

I could go on forever.

Spelunky is one of those games that bends me over and rapes me violently several times, yet I find myself coming back to it again and again. Curse you, Mr Yu.

I can complete Contra 3 pretty easily if I'm playing 2 player with my bro, it's quite a fair game to be honest. Also I find the new Mario games super easy, especially after completing the lost levels as a kid. True shoot-em-ups like R-Type are the games I find most dificult.

I found Eternal Daughter to be much harder than Spelunky, actually.

Although Jumpman is harder than both. But at least with that dying doesn't set you back so far.

I do agree with Eternal Daughter being harder than Spelunky, but someone wrote a guide for ED and by using that I was able to get about half way through the game. Also Spelunky plays better, Mia's acceleration annoys me greatly.

Jumpman is highly predictable. I'm much better at it than I am at Spelunky.

I'm pretty good at most video games, but I suck at fighting games and racing games.

I could never beat Super Mario Bros. 3 without a walkthrough. The castles were absurd with their puzzles.

Team Fortress 2, the console version. I hope I suck less with the PC version.

Rogue is one.

I don't know if I suck, but I'm not nearly good in tactics games.

Jumper. But that is to be expected.

Any Metroid game. Though the original is by far the most evil.

Every shmup I've ever played. 

You know, I never thought that games like Ninja Gaiden and Contra are that hard. They just require a lot of memorization, coupled with fast reflexes. But hey, we're not robots, so that's what makes them so difficult =)

So, I'm kinda good at action games. But there's a whole genre that I'd love to know how to play but that completely baffles me:

Strategy.

Warcraft, Starcraft, Age of Empires - I've tried playing all of those, and got my ass served to me every single time, even against CPU players. I guess I'm not any good at multitasking.

The original Metroid.

I really dig the graphics and atmosphere but the game seems pretty much unplayable.

Gex 3D, I managed to finish all levels, and i got all bonus stuff, but I was never able to finish the last boss.

Except for the fact that I'll never play Super Mario Galaxy and have only beating the 'fake' version of Super Mario Bros. 2 on GBA, I've never beaten a Mario game...oh I did beat the EXCELLENT Mario Golden Coin (name?) game for Game Boy. I loved that game and it belongs in Mario's top 5 easily.

Mega Man 1 is IMPOSSIBLE I repeat IMPOSSIBLE for me to beat. I'm great at Mega Man's games (I got 1-8 for Xbox on my 360) but getting boss Yellow Devil in Mega Man 1 is IMPOSSIBLE! Where's my slide GODDAMMIT!!!!!!!!!Yeah I can't get past one of the first areas. It took my awhile to get past the very first area though. Damn you old school difficult damn you!!!!I got stuck on one part on Super Metroid since a couple of years ago. I only found out how to get access to one area thanks to be spamming an attack so much. Now as of about 1 month ago, I'm stuck on a boss. Great...

Metroid Fusion is pretty easy though even though I have yet to beat it. It's bosses are pushovers though.

Nightmare (video) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O6tICXqwfk) is probably the hardest (and easily the most awesome looking) boss in the whole Metroid series. Or at least the only one I can think of that I had to retry more than a couple times. Yakuza (the spider boss) was pretty hard too, but not so much as Nightmare.

Nightmare was pretty nasty. I loved Metroid Fusion, because just about everything was really atmospheric. It had some really cool bosses.

I haven't beaten Fusion either so I wouldn't know that. lol But about half the game's bosses are easy from what I've seen. The last part I was on, the boss that gives you Space Jump (I think that's what it's called) was very hard once I think about it.

I haven't got past level two. i suck that bad.  :(

Competitive games, like SMBB or Guilty Gear. It's not that I really suck either, I'm average, but the difference between my skills and the people ho are good at the games makes a guy feel like he sucks, hardcore.

I cautiously suggest this is true of pretty much everyone who has played a competitive game who is not a pro gamer or has ascended to that level of skill. It's a very hit-or-miss way of feeling competent at a game; when playing on server A you might get your balls busted by some regulars, but when you play on server B you are appalled by how sloppy everyone is. Fighting against guys who seem to magically know where all your rockets will land and then fighting guys that just walk straight into them is really something.

I find fighting games a lot more enjoyable if I turn down the speed, or if the button count is lowered. It makes it a lot easier to react, strategize, and execute your strategies. I've recently been on an OMF 2097 kick because the game is pretty simplistic and slow (well, depends on your setting) compared to the fighters out there today, and the way the combo system plus attack controls work (punch button and kick button, orientation of the joystick determines power) allow you to pretty easily create your own combos, or relatively easily execute ones you've seen described. The spacing in the game is also quite different, the stages are so cramped and the warmup for some of the moves is so short that it's hard to spam a shoryuken/fireball (jaguar leap/concussion cannon in this case), it's refreshing to have a blast from the past.

The original Mega Man series... such a love/hate thing.  Though I guess almost everyone sucks at those games.

I'm pretty bad at RTSs too, but just something about the concept of an RTS draws me to them.

Hehe I think that level did give me trouble. I played Sonic a few years ago and that spring stage gave me HELL!

I can't get past that one part in the hydrocity zone, with the scrolling screen and moving wall.

That stage is not so bad. Sonic 3's Carnival stage is impossible though. Successor to Casino Night Zone MY FOOT!

As a child I sucked at Ecco the Dolphin in that I couldn't fight the last boss (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efos76RFYV8) without being scared shitless and then dying. Even worse, if it does kill you, you have to restart from the beginning of the previous level, which is of the annoyingly long auto-scroll variety. It's also probably easier to die in that level than it is at the final boss itself, too.

The Vortex Queen stands as the boss that scared me more than any other ever. Also I just suck at that game in its entirety now. It is extremely difficult.

Mostly due to that stupid, stupid bit with the spinning platform thingy, where you have to press up and down to move it. Totally unintuitive. Even my mum couldn't figure it out. I had to phone my mate for the answer. Felt pretty silly for not trying it, but you know, it was a control mechanic which kinda fell outside of the game's lexicon.

Especially with a game like Sonic, there's the sort of accepted 'language' of the game, which you kinda get used to, especially if you grew up playing Sonic games. (I could probably have said that a lot more elegantly, I'm pretty sure there's a better phrase but I can't think of it right now!) Anyway, I mean, for Christ's sake, when you jump on it, it moves up and down, and if you jump on it rhythmically, it moves more. So what you're actually supposed to do is not jump, stand still and press Up and Down rhythmically? Ugh.

Pft!  I beat that in like, a day.  :giggle:

Nightmare? Well, of course, it only took like a half hour's worth of retries, but I still can't think of anything else in the Metroid series that comes close to being that hard.

YES! THAT 1! That part annoyed me to no end. I just gave up. I might have continued jumping like an idiot if Sonic 3's levels and bosses were a little bit lackluster compared to Sonic 2 so far.

I never actually beat the underwater labyrinth zone... Isn't that sad? :apoplectic: I'm still kind of annoyed about it.

Well you could always get Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. God knows I'm going to so I can show Carnival Zone who's boss!

Man, I loved metroid fusion. Really atmospheric, went for something new that didn't seem like it was just for the sake of going for something new, had IMO the best graphics and coolest bosses in any metroid game, and was overall my favourite metroid title.

I thought Fusion was lacking just a little bit in departments like the bosses. And I THINK the Boss Music in that game sucked. hehe

I find Mario harder than Sonic because of that first Goomba, he gets me every time. It's been thirteen years since I first played it, half of my life, and I still lose a life on that fucking guy. You'd think I would have learned by now.

How could I forget Myth? I love that game, but I can't get past the firt level if it isn't in very easy.

lol I know what you mean. I DOMINATE Sonic 2 and I can get Super Sonic one Zone 1's Act 2 but that Goomba did get me a lot. I had to get my uncle to beat the first Mario and the ONLY Mario game I've beaten was the great (and VASTLY underrated) Golden Coin gameboy Mario game oh and the fake Super Mario Bros 2 (you know, the US version that's just a cheap mod)

I..I don't remember that castle. lol I got to watch that on youtube because I'm starting to question if I did in fact beat that Golden Coin Mario game. All I can remember that was hard and me beating was the Macro boss (giant rat, right?) and that HELL-A-FIED space level with the Stars-O-Death filling the screen and me doing an insane amount of tries to beat it. Oh and it auto-scrolled from what I just remembered..TF! Anyway, I think the great music mad me return to that incredible hard (but still incredible level) Oh...I'm ranting *goes to youtube for castle level*

I just looked at the last level of Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and and I can't remember if I beat that stage or not. I remember getting all the coins and opening the door, but after that it's just blank.

I love Touhou but I'm so horrible with it.

Oh, I agree. But I absolutely hate that game, so it doesn't qualify as a game I love, even though i do suck at it. Sonic was just hard enough to be frustrating yet enjoyable. The first Super Mario Bros just flat-out pisses me off.

Transport Tycoon and Sid Meier's Colonization. I suck at strategical thinking.
I tend to actively improve my skills in games that I love. For example, I've read several backgammon books to love backgammon even more.

lol The 3rd gamer I've sen who hates Mario. I need to beat that game one of these days. I remember in the early '90s it was impossible to get past that jumping fish level. That stage was just cruel!

I love Starcraft, but I totally suck at it. I can't even beat the terran quests.

Nightmare was hard the first time, but the 2:nd <->10:th time you fight him you don't even die once.

I found it really tough the first time, but after playing online a for a while then going back to the missions I found them a hell of a lot easier.

Marathon 2 and Marathon infinity.

I never got past the second level on either of them, but I still put hours and hours into playing those first few levels over and over and over again. I know the first level of marathon 2 like the back of my hand, I could probably do it blindfolded, but I could never, for the life of me, get to the end of level 2. I don't know what was wrong!

Well I actually sorta do, I was like 6 and it was my first FPS ever (which is probably why i love it so much), but still, you'd think with all that practice I would have gotten better. It kinda makes me want to go back and play them again now that I have good FPS reflexes.

Considering that they're freeware now, there's really no reason not to!

I suck at pretty much every online multiplayer game ever, not because I actually suck but because everyone else is so much better than me.

I suck at Streets Of Rage. For the last 2 days, GameTap has had the game for free and I've repeatedly failed to be it. CURSE YOU!!!!!!!!!

GPL. I've had the game for close to 7 years and still coming back to it, only to be shooed away. Lately I've been getting some nods of approval, though. But still shooed away.
