Title: Re: Dubloon [Point-n-Click Pirate RPG] Post by: Clearness on June 02, 2009, 02:59:30 PM I love your games Banov, I have just started this, seems very neat so far.
EDIT: Got through the first boss, please continue bro. Title: Re: Dubloon [Point-n-Click Pirate RPG] Post by: ithamore on June 04, 2009, 05:43:02 AM The menus in different positions for each character during battles felt awkward at first, but I got used to them. Also, I hope you plan to add an item option to the battle menus, so items can be used more efficiently. It would also be nice if the player could walk more quickly (either by default or through a toggle).
I'm looking forward to more. By the way, the links in the original post need to be fixed. Title: Re: Dubloon [Point-n-Click Pirate RPG] Post by: Banov on June 04, 2009, 06:23:44 AM @Clearness: Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The plan is indeed to continue it.
@ithamore: Thanks to you too, you had some great points. Let me try and respond to your comments a bit... Items can actually be used in-battle. The item button appears on its usual spot on the HUD when a party member is ready to act. I couldn't fit it in the bottom because, as you'll find later in the game, characters' movelists can get as big as 5 different attacks, which extends all the way to the screen's bottom. I've gotten the suggestion for a run button several times now, but then I'm not sure what I'd use. I was trying to avoid keyboard controls... perhaps holding the right mouse button? I fixed the links, thank you very much for pointing that out. It seems like these boards try to reformat my links whenever I paste them... Title: Re: Dubloon [Point-n-Click Pirate RPG] Post by: handCraftedRadio on June 04, 2009, 12:20:30 PM Pretty sweet game. Here are a few of my thoughts:
- I thought it was weird how you had to distribute every single stat point for your player at the begining of the game. With no prior knowlege of the game or how battles work, i had no idea how to make a character that would be able to make it very far in the game. I suggest either having some minimum values for each stat or having a default set value that you can change (instead of 0 for all of them). - The boss' special attack where you can deflect his magic ball by holding in the mouse button was a cool idea to make the battles more than just clicking on attack and waiting for your characters' time to fill, but i think it would be better if it varied just a bit each time the attack was done. The attack only actually hit me once, after that i figured out how to stop it and it was never able to hit me again. I was actually hoping that he would use his special move instead of his regular attack so i wouldn't take any damage. Maybe you could send it in a more complex pattern. -The screen 'rocking' while on the pirate ship was a cool effect. -Making the player go to the menu to get a key everytime to unlock something was a little annoying. Maybe you could just allow the player to click on the lock and if they have a key in their inventory it will unlock. -This isn't a big deal but i thought it was strange that the mouse couldn't be moved when there was a text box printing words. -Pirates need more peglegs and/or parrots (i did like that eyepatch though, it's a very popular accessory among pirates!) (believe me i know) Overall it's really good so far. I wished it would have went a bit longer but i guess i will have to wait till you are finished. Keep up the good work!
