Title: Auto-Warrior Post by: Marcos_del_bauer on August 22, 2009, 10:58:42 AM Ok, this is what I've been working on for a little while now. If you've visited my blog you might have heard about it. It's called Auto-Warrior and it's a RPG. ;D All battles are done automatically, so you have to prepare before-hand for battle. It's done in a very old school fashion.
Here's a demo: http://host-a.net/Marcos_del_bauer/Auto-Warrior.exe (http://host-a.net/Marcos_del_bauer/Auto-Warrior.exe) Screenshot: (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/Marcos_Del_Bauer/screenshot103.jpg) You can view more screenshots here: http://marcosdelbauer.blogspot.com/2009/08/some-updates-on-current-projects.html (http://marcosdelbauer.blogspot.com/2009/08/some-updates-on-current-projects.html) Be sure to check it out and tell me what you all think. The retro feeling + the automated battle system got me into it. Story is quite clichè (which isn't necessary a bad thing), graphics simple but do their job. The dungeons were pretty well made, too. One remark: it is quite tiresome to repeatedly press the cursor keys, if you can add something that let the player go, for example, up, as long as the UP key is pressed, well, my hands would say "thank you!" Title: Re: Auto-Warrior Post by: Glyph on August 24, 2009, 03:24:03 PM Hmm, setting up before the battle is okay and all, but I should at least be able to tell when to escape the battle. There's not much strategy otherwise, except for preparations (which is more menial tasks like healing and collecting items to get through than anything, it seems to me.) Maybe you could have "Battle Strategies" and you pick to be aggressive or defensive or some other options when going into a battle or something like that, so it's still automatic, but you can tell your player what's best for him when sometimes he can't. And maybe switching strategies in the heat of battle, that would add some great strategy elements.
Title: Re: Auto-Warrior Post by: deathtotheweird on August 24, 2009, 09:01:22 PM I second the request for control change. Gets tedious otherwise.
And if you look at the system The Last Remnant has, would be a better choice for this game I think. In The Last Remnant you can usually set a vague order over your units and they'll decide the best course of action but it still gives you a little bit of control. Title: Re: Auto-Warrior Post by: Marcos_del_bauer on August 27, 2009, 04:11:13 PM Ok, so just an update. I have listen to some of you guy's feedback and I have changed some things and added too. :P :handpencil:
- I now have it to where you can hold down the button to move. - You can now select 3 different battle strategies. Aggresive, Defensive, and Magic User. - I have a second quest after you beat the original. - Ending credits. :droop: - Other balance and bug issues. I hope to have a completed version within the next couple of weeks. Title: Re: Auto-Warrior Post by: contra on August 27, 2009, 04:21:35 PM Neat game. I'm actually in the process of making something similiar heavily influenced by Dragon Quest wich I assume was one of your inspirations aswell.
I've only tested the first demo so far my opinions are based on that but I kinda disagree with the others. The whole appeal of this game is its simplicity. The game seems far too easy though. You should make it abit harder, grinding is and should be apart of these types of rpgs gameplay. It would be nice to have a Status menu though. pressing space outside of battle should display all your stats and gold, get rid of the statstelling guys in the villages. Anyway good work! |
