Title: Extreme Bordercrossing
Post by: jwaap on September 18, 2009, 11:51:30 AM
the creators of the gutter (http://hotseat.thepoppenkast.com/gutter/gutter.php) present to you
EXTREME BORDERCROSSING

Let's start by making something clear.
Game design is dead.

A whole new design philosophy is needed. Games nowadays might be polished, but in real life, we use duct tape to fix things. What if you apply that very same principle to game design? Like monet and manet showed us, art needs refreshment.
Therefor we used surrealist coding, and cleared our minds of any memories in traditional ways. We came with the following:

Our protagonist enters the desert. You decide his story.

To call this a demo would counter our very own views on impressionist game design, but it is not the finished product.

DOWNLOAD (http://www.thepoppenkast.com/data/JW/xmtrucks5.exe)
users that are easily emotionally moved be warned, the dramatic effects of the camera might weigh heavy on your ego

SHOULD NOT WATCH BEFORE PLAYING! - the result of our thoughts in motion on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Fde4Jo3iWw)

Means of interacting with the storyline:

left arrow keys to guide to the left
right arrow keys to guide to the right
up arrow key to use hydraulics
space to activate storyline events when needed

We hope this does change your views on game design.
Understand that we do not have a hatred against the old generation, but new styles have to be developed. This has to be achieved by any means. Some will not understand. We will not use violence. But art has to be alive. We declare ourselves the saviors of game design.

this only shows how the internet is not ready for a nouvelle vague of game design

dont let them get to you. play the game.
be the game. control it.
make the story. live the story.

I have tears in my eyes, but joy in my heart. I can barely stand to type this, for it tears me away from your game. The greatest honour I can now imagine is shaking you by the hand. Game design is finished. There is nothing left for us to do. Congratulations.

Judging from the sheer quality and fun factor of this game, I seriously doubt that.

I really wish there was sound. I liked the part where I didn't know what was going on.

Yes, there need to be sound effects.  But something makes me think most of them should just be people yelling at the player?

Awesome thing!

We are working on this piece right now, so we figured that we should comment all the comments.

Robin Rodrigo Ramirez Rodriguez is a game.
Jan Willem Nijman is a game.
(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PSaWTi0tMHc/SoYp_pX6iCI/AAAAAAAAACs/A_2Lhkhd-rY/S220/vectorme_greenjesus.png) is a game.

we like the green on that picture

Well folks, that's it. Game of the year has arrived, everyone go home.

it is not a game, but it is of the year

All I can say about this game is:

What?

don't worry, we can say loads of things about it, and again, it is not a game.

I have tears in my eyes, but joy in my heart. I can barely stand to type this, for it tears me away from your game. The greatest honour I can now imagine is shaking you by the hand. Game design is finished. There is nothing left for us to do. Congratulations.

we hope you still have those tears in your eyes

Neat.  :coffee

Yes, it all started back in the 1950's when a man decided to stand up against his roots, and made true art. We now have to do the very same thing. WE MUST
We do not agree with your use of small faces depicting emotions, they are misguiding and out of date.

Haha, wow that IS sophisticated. It is way over my head so I'll just leave this discussion to you gentlemen.

It is not a discussion. It is the metagame.

Marry me. :-*

Do you mean me or robin?

Classy.
I love your games jwaap!

Yes, that's why you play this for life.

Yes, there need to be sound effects.  But something makes me think most of them should just be people yelling at the player?

Awesome thing!

Sound is something we have yet to look into. You can make your own sounds while playing using your mouth and simple kitchen tools.

I really wish there was sound. I liked the part where I didn't know what was going on.

he said it was a demo. i hope he adds sound and fixes a few things.

if not we'll just hunt him down and force him to do it  8)

it is not me, it is me and robin

i suport this thing

thank you, paypal donations are welcome

Haha. Haha.

Somebody has to explain it for me :droop:

You are dumb.
Explainations ruined our lives, do not ask for more

And finally, a cool new video showing new stuff we added to this piece of art:

I still question the authenticity of Robin's Mexican blood.
