Title: Visions & Voices Overhaul

They said I'd die. They said I'd die and go to heaven.
But no - that was not enough for me. I didn't want to die. I wanted to live.
In my fear of death, I lost sight of myself and everything I held dear. I made the wrong choice and everyone but me paid the price. But now, with all the things I have learned...I would make things right again. I would correct my mistake and return everything to the way it was before. Dear God...I no longer expect to enter heaven's pearly gates. But please, let me ask for one last favor, one final prayer, if You will.

Ten days, God. Let my body hold out for just ten more days, so I can redeem myself...

Visions & Voices is an exploration-based RPG set in the Montfort village. One man, the Wanderer, has decided to brave the village and figure out what is going on - why the people are vanishing, and why those who don't are going insane.

This version is an overhaul of the original release three months ago. While the first version of Visions & Voices was created in three weeks' time, the game has been revisited for an extreme overhaul of the aspect system, progression, story layout and difficulty/balance. New content has been added as well - just in case the superbosses aren't enough, there are several new 'uberbosses' hidden in new dungeons.

Enter the village, if you dare - but who are you do stop the apotheosis of a madman?

Features
-Five to ten hours of exploration-based gameplay
-Recruitable allies to find unique skills for
-Fast active-time battles with a unique personality aspect system for stats
-A dark setting with a story told out in a nontraditional manner
-Difficulty settings and the ability to customize the Wanderer - and even play solo
-Many unique weapons and other pieces of equipment to find, steal and kill for
-Talk to your allies with new conversations every day
-Five distinct endings and intelligent interaction that recognizes your accomplishments

P.S. Full credits are found within the in-game help menu, but a quick shout-out to Mac (tiles/characters), milano_cat (monsters), Danny Schneidemesser (final boss track) and Enu/Mr. Bubble (battle system and translation) is due.

DOWNLOAD VISIONS & VOICES (http://www.rpgmaker.net/games/1212/)

This game requires Windows XP/Vista/7, a soundcard that can play midi files and at least 512mb of RAM (1gb or more is preferred).

Special TIG note: This game did not receive the most amazing feedback during its first release. Despite the previous version's setbacks, Karsuman and I spent a few weeks polishing the game and taking a lot of player feedback into account. The V&V Overhaul is vastly superior to the old release - so much, in fact, that it's basically a new game.

First, I should say that I never played the original version of your game, so I can't compare this version to the previous one. Anyway, I just started playing... so far, I love it! Great art, excellent music...very dark and awesome atmosphere so far. Only problem was, I encountered a crash right after one of the fights in a building:

Code:
Script 'ATB (1.1)' line 991: NoMethodError occurred.

undefined method 'set' for nil:NilClass

Before the crash, though, I was able to test out the combat a few times. Although the core battle system seems kinda "been there, done that" it does have its own unique touch. (effects are awesome, btw)

W - what. That error has never happened before to me, Karsuman, any tester or any player before. I have no idea what to say. I'm sorry that you encountered that bug.

Do you remember ANYTHING that you did differently during that battle? Use a new character for the first time, used a certain power for a first time, hit some extra keys? The only way I can try to fix the bug is if I can recreate it... but since nobody has ever gotten it before I'm out of luck!

Thanks for playing the game, however, and I'm glad you're enjoying it. Atmosphere and writing were decided by Karsuman and I to be very important, and as such I'm glad that's coming through.

I'll do some testing and try to duplicate it today...

Even looking at the error message though, I can guess that ATB means Active Time Battle, right? It looks like it was trying to access a function from a class that didn't exist, or something like that. What exactly is the game doing at line 991 of the combat script?

To be honest, I'd rather you played/enjoyed the game instead of testing it for a freak bug - I'm not going to STOP YOU but hey, I want feedback on how great you think the game is and not on crop circles.

I've already given you initial feedback, so when I get more free time I'll continue playing...but I'd sincerely prefer that you iron out any remaining bugs (or in this case, crashes) rather than just ignoring them. Like I said, check out the script and see what's going on at that specific line...

And also... you cannot stop people ON TEH INTERNETZ.   :ninja::handshakeR:

I'm going to look at it, but that doesn't mean I don't want current players to bore themselves with stuff the developer needs to do!

Aha, I played the very early part of this and I like it! I'll have to get into it when I have some more time. Looks really polished...

The only disappointment is when I quit, it didn't save. I guess you have to find a save point to save. Maybe there could be one right at the town entrance? People might just play for a few minutes to see what it's like before they decide to really give it a try.

Nevermind that too much though, this looks awesome!

I think you start with an item that lets you save anywhere, and then you can just save at the Ogre's Mug tavern afterwards. At least, I think that's how it works.

Hehe, true ;D

Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention one other thing I liked: I love that it seems to all be based in one town. I've never seen another RPG do something like that, it really does make it feel more like you're uncovering a mystery rather than just roaming a world smashing monsters for phat lewtz. Very awesome  :wizard: :handmetalR:

Woah, thanks for all of the positive support!

PsySal: You can always save at the Ogre's Mug or by using a Portable Record from the item menu (of which you start with three).

Remember that it's a bit long but not an EPIC FIFTY-HOUR GAME; an afternoon should be enough to play through it.

Played it before, will give it another shot to see what's new!

Edit: minor thing - Z and Y keys are swapped on some keyboards, especially eastern European. QUERTZ keyboards, y'know. When you use Z key to do stuff... you can find yourself stretching yourself over the whole keyboard. Just a note.  :concerned:

I never knew about that! You can change the settings by hitting <F1> while playing - I never mentioned this RMVX feature before because the menus are a little confusing. You can reset buttons there. If you need help setting up the button layout, PM me or post again here and I'll help you decipher the menu.

Also, <SPACE> works for <Z>. =D

I just switched Windows language layout to English, but that works too!

That works, too! Thanks for trying out the game even with it requiring some keyboard settings punching.
