Title: the paper rad mario movie
Post by: thecatamites on November 17, 2009, 02:49:02 PM
I dunno if you guys have seen this but it's really cool and seems pretty close to the ~indie vidcon aesthetic~ heh. Basically it's a short movie based on a hacked Super Mario Bros cartridge in which a vaguely sentient mario sprite must navigate an old glitched videogame world although that's a really awful description. Starts slow but give it a shot?? More info here http://www.paperrad.org/info/art/mariomovie.html (http://www.paperrad.org/info/art/mariomovie.html)

That's interesting. It didn't make much sense (I got that the data was corrupting, but beyond that...) but it was nice to look at. It's pretty cool how they did that by messing with an actual game cartridge.

Cory Arcangel is awesome, as is Paper Rad.
I've seen this movie before, but I think the pacing is a bit poor. There are fairly long stretches where nothing happens at all.

Yeah, I'll second that. I enjoyed it, and it's a great concept, but it would have been twice as good if it has been half as long.

I guess they were trying to capture a "lonely" atmosphere. Problem is, that doesn't work too well with glitched-up Super Mario Bros. graphics.  :D

But in here you are alone. In madness.
