I love how they say "Yeah we're bringing the brand new gameplay innovations from our new well-respected brand that consists of like one game."

And are they talking about sidescrolling 2d graphics? Cause that's totally what "original series" means to me.

they're talking about the mostly pretty good 3d series that started with sands of time. (which is one of the best games of the last generation btw)

But unlike Braid, their time potion runs out.

I know that, but I'm saying it's a bit shady to call it the "original" series, and even shadier to say "brand" when they're referring to one game.

And yeah, Sands of Time was pretty good.

fun fact: ubisoft's modus operandi for sands of time was "make it like ICO."
apparently the game was always being played and analysed. ico was the game to beat.

in that respect IT WAS A FAILURE.

but yeah, that was great game.

Predictable. Though I still have to play the latest PoP. Honestly, I think one of the problems was calling it just Prince of Persia. I dunno, felt kinda cocky.

Another fun fact: Ico was influenced by the original Prince Of Persia.

I hope returning to the Sands of Time storyline doesn't mean they'll make the game all "badass" and juvenile like Warrior Within. Though I somehow suspect it does.  :concerned:

The artwork for the new Prince of Persia was awesome, but I thought the gameplay was kind of weak. And by 'kind of weak' I mean terrible.

The new PoP had great graphics and fundamentally solid gameplay that was marred by some seriously bad design decisions (namely utter lack of challenge).

I really didn't like the last Prince of Persia. The entire game felt like Parappa the Platformer, never really got a feeling that I was controller the character. But maybe that's just because of the emphasis got put on animation over everything else, which is kinda Prince of Persia to it's core.

Also ridiculously lenient move queuing.

I only played the first PoP - Sands of Time.  I thought it was ridiculously easy and the combat was rather weak.

It reminded me a lot of Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain, which was a much better game with most of the same problems.

But, a PoP on the handheld might not be so bad...

I hope the prince has a sassy attitude and some awesome goth tattoos in this one, and maybe a kickin' metal soundtrack to please the kiddies.

Kids like heavy metal, right?

Lincoln Park isn't Screamo, it's nu metal its most pure form.

This is what the kids (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5886Nb_psg#t=2m25s) like (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8F5YSA1Oz0). Take 3-5 completely different types of music and have them run right into each other, sell the mess what results.

The method isn't intrinsically bad, at least not when done with finesse.

I mean, combining genres produces really awesome stuff. How about that 8-bit Weezer Tribute? Chiptune-rock. Awesome.

How is 8-bit a genre? It really just limits the instruments you can use. :)

And that's a pretty big divisor.

Take for example the difference between instrumental classical music, and choral classical music.

True, they both are "classical" music, but I'd say they count as subgenres.

At some point though, one does have to stop paying attention to genres and just sort of go with whatever's good, because there's just too many possible combinations. But for the sake of classification we put things in genres, and I'd say "chiptunes" is different enough from other types of music that it deserves a mention when organizing tracks.

The new PoP had great graphics and fundamentally solid gameplay that was marred by some seriously bad design decisions (namely utter lack of challenge).
I just beat the game and I wouldn't have minded the lack of challenge if they did it right. Meaning, if the combat was so flawed, I wouldn't mind being able to not die. With that said, I say that PoP has the best 3D platforming I've ever played.

I thought it was challenging. I mean, I died a lot. Almost all of those deaths were related to the horrible combat system in some way, but yeah...

I don't get why everyone says the platforming is so great. I mean, it's a lot of fun, but the character doesn't feel as responsive or the movement as visceral as in, say, Rayman 2 or a Mario game.

He does go into a lot of canned animation but I liked that more than if they just forced us to be super accurate with the platforming.

Heh heh yes it was. I don't mind the lack of challenge. In fact, I'm impressed that the game was a good length despite not forcing you back to checkpoints (well it kind of did but they were short trips).

I personally have no problem with frequent checkpoints. Far away checkpoints are not what creates real challenge. They simply force you to retread ground you already covered and conquered.

Bayonetta is a game that can be fairly balls-bustingly hard, especially in higher difficulties, but still has very frequent checkpoints, even several within bossfights (which tend to be long enough to warrant their own separate chapters). It just makes sure your accomplishments of getting through each challenge are not nullified.

Yeah, I don't mind frequent checkpoints either. I actually prefer those to being able to save anywhere.
