dude. i have a tattered notebook from when i was 16 on a card-based combat system, if you ever need anybody to banter ideas back and forth with let me know.
if you haven't already, i'd check out the 'jobs' subforum to scope out possible artistes.

there's rumblings on the net that this is going to be the last generation of sustainable handhelds, especially with the advent of android/ip_d. shame really, i've always loved portable gaming since i was three.

shig, if I'm arsed to I might do a couple refutations of the indie games he scrutinized recently and post them somewhere online; I'll message you them first before I post them anywhere else.
I also have to get around to breaking down Super Mario Bros' level design. hmm.

Developer / Technical / Re: RPG combat equation?

(player strength) divided by (player strength + enemy strength)
so if the player is 5, enemy is 5: 5/10 = 50% chance
if the player is 4, enemy is 8 4/12 = 33% chance
and so on. It's basic enough that anybody who went through middle school could get a rough estimate on if they'll hit or not. Maybe if you use this above approach and have strength bound between 1-10 it could work. or something.

jwk5 is certainly more of a gentleman than most people in this thread. It sort of brings the asshole out in everybody (me included) involved. The original topic is long dead, maybe we could make threads in Design on any topics we'd want to continue discussing. For me at least there's a stigma in engaging discourse in here.
i'm not digging the negative vibe, maaaan
