I concur, the second way is better. I have a game kernel that I've held on to for the past two years that incorporates this, but my game-making skills aren't up to par. That and general apathy on my part.

This was a nice way to spend a lunch break. I cannot swoon over your graphics enough, seriously. As others have mentioned, it breaks the flow of the game to have cacti in an unshootable spot. You could either tweak their spawn points to make them all destructible, or you could even it out by having indestructible, grounded cacti (that visibly are part of the foreground) occasionally spawn near the bottom that you'd have to avoid. Just to throw it out there, but a simple enemy (who could even follow the same flight path as the cacti) that cannot get shot down would add some flair.

I ragged on this in my Tofu Boy review, and was kinda shocked when somebody pointed out the PC SMB had it as well.
The controls felt perfect for the 360, which is saying something given their gimpy controller, but c'mon. Throw PC gamers a bone.

SOS, or Septentrion, has a depressing ending if you don't take the time to save fellow crew members.
And it's pretty rudimentary, but the It Was All A Dream ending of Link's Awakening was bittersweet when I was in elementary school.

I started substitute teaching back when I was 17, mucked around a college in Maryland at 18, and have spent the past year and a half full-time substitute teaching. With any luck my aspirations can outweigh my apathy and I'll get the hell out of Alaska (for a degree at least).
I make shitty music and naively fashion myself as a pseudo-gonzo journalist, but teaching seems to be the only occupation that's both viable and fulfilling at this point. Here's to hoping.

I dig some Neutral Milk Hotel, but usually I'm down for their debut album more than Aeroplane. As far as depression-lifting music goes, Guitar Wolf is my anti-sad.
Dudes! New Earth! *salivate*
My headphones fucked up last week as well, but I've been listening to tons of folk-punk/riot-punk/dudes too punk to use electricity.

Not to be rude or anything, but... duh. I always get tons of games to play/review, and maybe one of these days (hah) I might make mah own gam.
I haven't posted in the thread since my last account, but there were tons of neat ideas floating around in the compo idea thread.

I discovered the best incentive to get third graders to work: I have literally no talent in drawing, but it turns out the little tykes love little sketches as a reward for completing an assignment. I even had one kid slog through a backlog of papers just so I would doodle a ninja turtle on each page. The girls weren't too keen on random nerdy sketches, but thankfully a smiley face and a grin of my own worked just as fine.
Fuck college, seriously, but if it let's me teach For Real I'm all for bullshitting my way through it.

I possibly, maybe, hopefully will be going to college in the Seattle region next semester, so I wholeheartedly support this endeavor. I'll think of a snazzy title and possible games when I'm not swamped with teaching kids.
EDIT: The Cactus and Ikiki cabinets would be awesome. A jwaap-only cabinet would be boss as well.

Also, Melatonin, Nyquil, Water, and push-ups as a means of cold-recovery.

+1 to pushups. At the start of the calender year I couldn't do a single pull-up. I just did 12 at the gym today. It's like an RPG, but with tangible benefits!
