I just implemented my text system using similar methods as the tutorial. I wrote a separate program to locate the width of each character by starting from the right side and moving left until it found a non-transparent pixel in a line. The data for each character is saved into a file and loaded by the game engine when the font is created. I also was able to avoid specificly telling each tile what position in the bitmap it was by mapping the characters to their ascii values in the image (i also subtracted 32 from the ascii values since there was a bunch that i wasnt going to need).

The most he risks is a C&D letter demanding him to stop using their IP, in which case he just removes the offending traits from the game (which is why I advise to make the game in a way that the IP "borrowing" isn't central to the game) and everything's fine.
Followed by a nice little one-way trip to the big house. If you're lucky you'll get a window cell.

Also remember once you have enough posts, to make sure to always pretend like the secret forums don't exist. And if somebody accidentally says something about them, make a follow up post where you pretend like you don't know what it is or like they are joking or something. It helps to make up fake secret forums that don't actually exist and talk about those to distinguish the validity of the first person's slip up. Oh, and don't forget to make a thread in the corresponding secret forum to talk about how bad the person is for letting the ultra-top-secret secret out.

I would give this game a try were it freeware or a little more original.
Yeah but John Wizard needs some dough! It's expensive to buy wands these days, not to mention the magic scrolls. The dry cleaning bill on those blue wizard robes are probably sky high in this economy. Not having read the entire review yet, it seems kinda, bias. I'm basing this purely off of the overall rating they gave the game (97/100) and that the only cons listed were only having 4 save slots and other minor details not really related to gameplay (not having good enough marketing/publicity is a con to a game?) Also, looking at some of the screenshots only, I don't think it is possible to have an almost perfect 97/100 score. Particularly this screenshot http://www.gamertell.com/gaming/gallery/album/dawns-light/6672/. With stuff like this you would need some killer awesome gameplay to bring it to a 97/100, but from reading what you guys have said about it, the gameplay also seems pretty generic. I haven't read that review or played the game yet, but those are a few things that instantly popped out at me and seem a little odd. I'm going to try to play the demo when I have time.

Why wait till college before starting to program or create games? I started learning c++ when I was in 8th grade ( and previously messed around with other languages before that.) I recommend just buying an intro to programming book off of amazon and just start teaching yourself. College won't teach you anything that you can't learn on your own. Though, if you are more in to making games and not really interested in programming then it may be hard to motivate yourself. A lot of people think that the learning part is just boring work you have to do before you can start coding a game, but I just like programming anything in general so I was able to fly through the intro books. My first programming course in college taught less than what I was able to learn in 1 week when i was in 8th grade. I never went to class and got 100% on every exam. So if you are interested in programming there is no reason not to start right now.

I guess it would be possible to go from one side to the other and check each pixel to see where the letter actually ends. I might try something like this, just write a small program to do it once and then copy-paste the values.

A+ article. I made my own bitmap font system a while back but I mainly gave it up whenever I couldn't get the spacing right. I didn't really think about setting the spacing for every single character individually, seems so obvious now. You also have a great method in there for handling things like different colors within the same text string. Such an easy and simple way of doing it, why didn't I think of that? Great work, very helpful. I'm definitely looking foward to your next articles.

wouldn't luke be traveling forward in time if star wars took place "a long time ago?"
you know, it's everyone's nitpicking at minor details that is going to complete ruin the new series of starwars movies. so something doesn't line up chronologically, big deal. its a movie about people flying spaceships around shooting lasers at each other just watch it and enjoy it.

Reservoir Dogs, though i don't like quentin tarantino or any of his other movies that i've seen. strange. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
I just CANNOT get enough of this movie. It's so awesomely bad, it's... AWESOME.
I thought it was pretty good actually, and not in a make fun of it way. Everybody hates on it but I thought it was pretty good when I saw it. Nowhere close to the originals, though, of course. I'm excited for the new ones they are making, episode vii which takes place after return of the jedi. It's about luke skywalker time traveling into the past to face hitler (who previously traveled forward in time) in a lightsaber duel on the wing of an airplane during D-Day.

sony is apparently being sued for not making the games available for the visual impaired
That's like a band being sued for not making music available to deaf people. Why don't, instead, we just sue scientists for not finding a cure for blindism yet?

Yes, and the group is good for IMing memers of tigsource and for seeing what people are playing and quickly being able to join their games.
Also guys, again, post a link to your steam id page if you want an invite. Steam allows people to have multiples of the same handle and the steam search for members doesn't work all that well either. It is all around easier to do too, so make sure to post your link.

Duck Tales (no, I'm serious)
That game is so good. It is one of my favorite gameboy/nes games ever. The nes version was pretty much the same thing but in color. My all time favorite gb game was Link's Awakening. Final Fantasy Legend II is a pretty good game, I was never able to get any of the other in the series but I imagine they would be pretty good too. I remember I had this batman game that I used to love where batman had a gun, but I haven't played it in awhile so it may not be as good as I remember. I also loved the ninja turtles games: Fall of The Footclan and Back to the Sewers.

Looking really nice so far. I thought it was strange that the text starts from the top and then scrolls down. Also, the final row had text cut off and I couldn't read it. You should probably give it enough room to make it visible or just get rid of it completely.
