That's a little dickish of you phubans.
Sorry, I was only joking to try and make light of the situation. I quoted the part about being beat up so the joke wouldn't be associated with his friend's death, because there's nothing funny about that.

An earlier post says he and his friend were beaten up on the street for no reason. Maybe there's more that Cactus isn't telling us... Maybe his indie games are a front for his drug trade?

Ok, I invoke Rule 34 on this thread. Are you up to the challenge?
Always. EDIT: Touched it up a little bit to make it slightly more rule 34. Hopefully Derek doesn't ban me from TIG and/or files a restraining order against me after seeing this It's all in good fun! Oh yes, and that's a KEY he's holding, just so there's no ambiguity!

These threads are always massive on every forum, and I doubt anyone bothers to read everything posted in them, but it's fun to post anyways. I've currently got the following loaded into WinAmp:
Belle & Sebastian Discography The Carpenters Discography Crystalis (NES) OST Final Fantasy VI OST Various Game Music Folder Phil Collins Discography (What? I was born in the 80s, okay?) Radiohead Discography Simon & Garfunkel Discography The Finches - Human Like a House album Vernian Process (my friend) remastered collection of FF and Castlevania tracks Yo La Tengo Discography
Currently playing: Final Fantasy VII - One Winged Angel (SEPHIROTH!!)
I can't really say I'm a forum person, since this one is pretty much the only one I visit often -and post less often - but I like to read everything in this thread. I usually go to the last post I remember and then read until the end. You never know when someone is going to link to something cool. That and that I'm a sucker for music. Also, me likes your playlist. Never been that much into OSTs (movies or games) but I totally dig your choice in discographies. I'm going to unbury some belle & sebastian and yo la tengo records now, if you excuse me Yay! I'm glad someone can appreciate :D

So while I was doing my daily rounds on the Internets, I stopped by my favorite online forum, TIGForums... Now there were a few threads I was keeping my eye on here, and one in particular that I had been quite active in. Now, much to my dismay, that thread is nowhere to be found! Did the matrix just glitch or did the mods really do the unthinkable; delete a thread? I mean, locking threads is one thing, but deleting... Really?? Of course, we can all agree that that thread was quite embarrassing at a glance, but there were also many humorous moments mixed with pearls of wisdom and interesting interactions between various members of the community. Now, those words are gone forever. TIG, I am disappoint.

Was a metal slime from the Dragon Quest series: Is now an 8-bit warrior hero heavily inspired by Dragon Quest: I drew both :] The first was just for fun and the latter is for a possible game I have planned for the future.

"Essential development tools for indies"?
Someone should start one in the Creative section. Done. It's looking a little bare at the moment, but hopefully it will grow into a useful topic full of excellent resources!

Hello, I'm making this thread to be an index of tools that may be useful to independent game developers. The resources posted here should be freeware that is relevant to the development of indie games! Excellent find! Thank you. Something like this should be in every indie dev's toolkit, alongside sfxr. I wonder what other cool, useful programs are out there? Maybe we could start a resource index? "Essential development tools for indies"?

I don't really get what I'm seeing... Everything I'm seeing can easily be done in Photoshop with an even better end result. So what am I missing?

Remake FF7 and we'll talk...
Ewww, god no. Are you kidding Paul? FF7 was the last best game of the Final Fantasy series with its characters, storyline, and soundtrack. The only reason I haven't attempted to play it again is because the graphics are horribly dated. I've made this analogy before and I'll make it again. 2D is like fine wine, it only gets better with time. 3D, on the other hand, is more akin to milk... I think you know where I'm going with this one...

But...if you're really that brilliant compared to the majority of the hoard (and really, if you are here, you likely are IMO) then within a few years you could be pulling in more than $100k with your degree to help back you.
Sure, you could push out on your own, but the risk is high for the same reward.
Thanks for that, I think it's possible. I was inspired by AdamAtomic's Canabalt, which I heard he sold over 300,000 copies of at $3, which earned him at least half a million dollars after Apple took their cut. I'm also working on a Flash game with Luke (cthulhu32) that I'm hoping to market to the iPhone when it's finished for a buck or two. If it can see the same popularity, then I should pull enough money to pay off my school debt and put that part of my life behind me. But that's the thing, I don't need a degree or anything this school has to offer me to make this happen, we just need to finish the game and market it. Weird, I wanted to post a link to the game but it appears to be offline. Wonder why?

Awesome insights, Blindsight! I think it's important to remember that a school is a business just like any other (especially mine, which is a corporate chain school), so their interest in what you get out of their program comes only second to how much money they can make off of you. It's an effed up scheme, if you ask me, and in most cases they make it harder for you so you'll have to spend more money in the long run, I am aware of this.
I think I got to this point with school by letting people's words sink in. Words like, "You're brilliant/probably a genius/etc" or, "You've done all this? So why are you in school again?" or "In this industry degrees really aren't that important, it's the portfolio that counts." So I got the impression that I might be one of those individuals that doesn't need to be in school. The fact that I'm going to be in over $100K of debt certainly adds insult to injury.
