I'm just saying that it looked like one at first.

...and I didn't play the first one either.

Well, they're short but large, if you know what I mean. Wide.

Besides, accurately representing a dwarf's height in comparison to the other sprites given already would result in most attacks just  going over him. I think he looks very dwarfy. If anything, I would recommend making Naija larger.

Make a dolphin head! Dolphins are totally under-represented in the freeware gaming industry Cry

Much. Significantly, actually. I think that would make a good in-game sprite. Nice work! Beer!

Very good! I would change the clothing theme to light blue, though. That's what new peasant dwarves in DF are colored. Really quite good, though, and it goes along well with the other character sprites we have so far!

One more problem. The expression on his face is perplexed. Dwarf Fortress dwarves fear nothing, and will dive into battle bare-fisted just to deliver divine justice or die in a horrible mess trying.

In other words: not gritty enough.

I tried the demo, but was ever-so-slightly let down. It's not because it's bad, it's just not the genre I was expecting. The artwork and style had me thinking it would be similar to Gunstar Heroes, but it seems to be much more beat-em-up than shoot-em-up. Looks like an awesome, awesome game, but I'm just not as fond of the genre it's in.

3009  Developer / Art / Re: The Uncanny Valley. Fact or Fiction? on: August 12, 2008, 02:11:53 PM
I'm gonna try something weird here and "rerail" this topic.

I do believe in The Uncanny Valley, from what I've seen in some games. People keep bringing up FF12, which confuses me considering that none of the characters in that game are anywhere near the uncanny valley to me. Maybe there's a wider or thinner Valley depending on the person?

The worst of the Uncanny Valley that I've seen is in Guitar Hero 3. It has some of the stupidest characters I've ever seen, and they really begin to piss me off WTF

NOTE: I'm pretty sure this is not a thread about racism or sexism. These two topics are cannon-fodder for trolling, so I would recommend staying away from them in the future.

3015  Developer / Indie Brawl / Re: Indie Brawl: Design Doc and Engine Test- Naija Added! on: August 12, 2008, 03:09:42 AM
I don't really like that, because it still allows you to block anything. I mean, the enemy could conceivably go behind you, but then you could just turn around and start shielding again. I agree with only blocking projectile specials.

HOWEVER: I think that only melee based characters should get reflect moves. There should be some way to balance it so that the characters that have a harder time getting to the enemy to damage it will at least be able to keep from being damaged on the way there.

Example: The Golden Knight has less projectile attacks than Quote and Curly. For him to get to them from across the screen, he would have to take massive punishment from their projectile attacks. With a reflect move or special, he could more easily reach them by knocking their attacks back into them. Just a thought.

Alright, has La Soeur De Barrage been mentioned here before? It's a freaking awesome shoot-em-up. It uses mouse controls, and ridiculous bullet patterns.

I don't have any screenshots, but there's a video of me doing one of the more impressive patterns in the game.

Edit: Right, the download site is in Japanese, which makes that harder. It's the first link on the page (not on the toolbar on the top)
