Manatees can't compare with Narwhals for sheer bizarreness, but they're still pretty weird.
I have to wonder what god would think to himself "This ecosystem is really lacking on giant floating sacks of blubber. Gee, I've gone this far, I better make some giant walking sacks of blubber too!"

You're indie if you think you're indie.
The line is too blurry for it to matter anyway. Is developing for the XBLA indie? Is developing for the App store indie? Is developing flash games indie?
None of that is important. Indie is a philosophy, not a paycheck or a license. As long as you're content with your indieness, you've got enough indie credentials for me.

i agree but felt this was ameliorated by the ability to press m and warp back to a previous checkpoint -- if you fell somewhere you didn't want to, just back up a checkpoint and try again.
Well, the composite fear was that I kept running into those warp markers early on. Grr! At least once I tripped over a marker that I really didn't want to and ended up redoing an entire area. I think that a simple input for "saving" at markers rather than just rolling over them would have been slightly effective (even just "down to save", or something).

I'm lost as to the whole secrets thing, though.
If you really want to know, it's SPOILERS. AND MORE FOR GOOD MEASURE. And part of the reason I love endings like the one in Redder is that the "story" is tied into the graphics. Most games present their story completely exclusively from the game in separate cut scene format, with the most interesting "interaction" being quick-time events. I want to see more games that link progress and plot to the other elements of the game.

Okay, I 100%ed the game, and it was super awesome. At least go for all 27 diamonds if you don't feel like finding all the secret areas. The ending is amazing. Final criticism: diamond-get sound effect is louder than everything else. Got a bit grating after a while. Other than that, three thumbs up.

Running criticism! First off, it's fun. That's definitely a good start. Some problems I've noticed immediately, though, is that the jump button is a bit stick (not so much a problem later, once you know what's up, but screwed me over a couple times early on), and there are numerous areas where a single mistake requires a lot of backtracking. Knowing where to go to get a specific gem can be very difficult, as many of the systems are comprised of six or seven rooms alone, with points in several rooms where you can move to a different area. The result is a lot of entering one room and thinking "no, I don't need to be here" and having to leave again. Also, considering the previously mentioned one-mistake-and-it's-backtracking thing, I'm often scared to go down, because there's a chance I feel there's a chance I won't be able to get back up if I'm going in the wrong direction. To be fair, what I've played so far has never given me a fall that I couldn't get back out of without knowing that I wouldn't be able to get back, but I'm still filled with a nameless dread every time I am presented with a cliff I can't see the bottom of. PGil Spoilers (rollover)I know I'm saying bad things about the game, but I really love it to death regardless.

I don't think addiction is a bad thing.
I think that addiction paired with a rolling payment scheme is a bad thing (fixed payment for your addiction, like Borderlands would be more alright. Although that's getting iffy too, considering all the DLC).
I play many online MMO games without spending a dime, and I'm perfectly happy doing so.

It's not hard to see why companies are switching over to casual audiences when their "core" gamers are going to pirate their shit if they see even the smallest thing wrong with it. Or the smallest thing wrong with the way their game is protected. Or just feel like it at the time.
Congratulations, "hardcore" gamers! You're your own worst enemy.
