Would've bought one in the 20-30 dollar range but they're all already around 40$, which is great for Cactus I guess.  Beer!

That's what I wonder most. Is the latency a software or a hardware problem. If it's the latter no matter how cool the games are I think it's doomed.

They got offered tons of $$$ by Microsoft and sold-out. Now look where they are-- just making/getting paid to make crappy mini-game collections for project natal Kinect. They don't have their own unique vision anymore, now it's whatever micro thinks would be the best.
You people explain me Viva Pińata..
I've never seen a game so openly display genocide before.  Who, Me?

With the 3DS poised to become the "next-big-thing," I can't help but question what Sony intends to do with its portable line.

Presumably, the PSP-3000 must be doing decently for them at the moment. If it wasn't, I would imagine they would be much more worried about their handhelds. The GO is just a painful experiment. It doesn't stand a chance against its own predecessor, let alone the launch of the 3DS.

But then, I supppose it would make sense for Sony to hold off on announcing anything PSP2-related at E3. Whatever success the PSP has enjoyed in North America, Japan has been its core market. If we are going to hear anything soon about the PSP2, it will most likely be at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

I don't think the PSP is doing that well for them. Piracy is rampant since it cracking the PSP is incredibly easy to do as well as very powerful. Then there's the problem that good games are kinda rare, not too many must-haves. Mostly just knock-offs from big console titles. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony abandones the handheld market altogether.

As said before consumer-class speakers will never get you that low.
You would really need some serious expensive sound monitors, and you can hardly rely on that for your game.

On the other hand, you might just scare the shit out of the single person that plays indie games in his studio.  Well, hello there!

muku: thanks for the link to Io, that seems a nice and language! As you say, perhaps a bit limited, and binding it to C++ seems a bit arduous with a lot of manual housekeeping. I might be wrong, I only read a few wiki samples about that. And yeah, I agree AngelScript is not as tidy a language as some others but I've ranked it high because of its maturity and ease of integration.
Io is somewhat slow from what I've seen. That's slower than even the big "scripting" languages like Python or Ruby. Otherwise I'd like to use it quite a bit on its own, but as it stands it is more of a proof-of-concept language than really something for productivity.

Meh. Impressive leap of technology, but the next GB I get will be the next one with a "modern enough" lifespan longer than 2 years.
That's because every Nintendo handheld so far had a lifespan of longer than 2 years?

Ok, thanks.

That clears that up.
309  Player / General / Re: Alternative to PayPal? on: June 21, 2010, 01:27:00 PM
all of those take as large or larger a percent of the money as paypal does, though. paypal actually takes an extremely low % compared to most (it can afford to since it's so big).
I actually read that Google takes less. It was some game or something where the dev encouraged to use Checkout because of that.

Yah, I think marketing wise it would be better if they changed up the name more.
I bet they would but in this case the name pretty neatly sums up the product.

Give all your power to Google!
312  Player / General / Re: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (AKA X-COM MGS) on: June 19, 2010, 02:06:57 PM
When you're doing it on piano you generally shouldn't have more than one finger on the key at any one time, so it really doesn't make a difference. I've just tried it with my (broken) psp, and I can do it just as fast as on a piano, somewhat faster actually, as the button has to move less.
But you strike the key at a different place, that's what I meant. Anyway this discussion doesn't really matter. I tried it as well and it helped me zilch, so I guess good for you?
313  Player / General / Re: Kinect on: June 19, 2010, 08:26:26 AM
Yah, but the playstation version and non-kinect version requires a controller. Considering it'll be pretty much like rez, the gameplay is perfectly suited for projecting yourself into the game and just flailing.
It's also Move-compatible, isn't it?
314  Player / General / Re: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (AKA X-COM MGS) on: June 19, 2010, 05:28:05 AM
Use both hands, I'm a pianist, and my teacher always told me that when you need to play something really fast you should use either both hands or the thumb and first two fingers of your hand
Useless on such a small button.
no, it's really not
You need to move the hands/fingers which takes more time than simply hitting it again. It works on a piano because the keys are larger so you can place more than one finger on them.

Here's a Kinect game that actually looks cool. Just a teaser though:

http://child-of-eden.us.ubi.com/

I've been reading a lot of negativity from producers who are working on kinect projects which got passed over since they wanted their E3 presentation to primarily appeal to the wii audience.
Yeah that is the only interesting one so far, but that isn't even Kinetic exclusive and doesn't really seem to touch on the high points of Kinetic (full body recognition).

317  Player / General / Re: It's OnLive! on: June 18, 2010, 02:39:58 PM
I didn't mean OnLive specifically is "the future", I was talking about this sort of streaming service in general.
OnLive will fail, then it will take at least 10 years before it is tried again and succeeds.
318  Developer / Technical / Re: How do I generate weighted random numbers? on: June 18, 2010, 12:15:38 PM
I would probably create a probability table that describes how many times out of a hundred the player will get say 1-10 coins, 11-50.. etc. at that level. Then you create a random number between 1 and 100 so you get your range, then you can get another random number that specifies the exact amount.
319  Developer / Technical / Re: Which can make me learn faster? Manual coding or usage of a game making program? on: June 18, 2010, 09:53:33 AM
I'd check out http://love2d.org/. It doesn't have a GUI but as I understand it, that isn't used a lot in Game Maker anyway. Big upside is that Löve is cross-platform.

The Portal 2 demo was interesting.  Very cool environmental effects and the game seems to have retained the humor which made it so popular.
I'm really digging the techno. Gives it a sense of Glados being at work.

Although really, I don't think anyone actually liked the companion cube, they just pretend they do because it's a meme.
Why do you think it became a meme?
