There's a difference between 'free' and free. If you are getting good exposure, and may be able to pull a few favours, then that's not exactly free. No money has been exchanged but the value is still there. The problem is when the 'exposure' tends to be so abysmal that even after you've done the work, no one still knows who you are and no one is knocking at your door to ask you to work for them. So I guess I should call it bartering and not free, because free is literally you did the work and got nothing to show for it but the experience of doing it. Do that for long enough and you won't have the time to keep doing it for free because life will catch up to you. Either it's bills, your family, or having to work day jobs, something will give.

So when only one side gets everything and the other side gets nothing out of the deal, that's a win lose situation, not a win win. And these people aren't getting anymore experience making music for the game than if they just made the music without the game, it's not like anyone is showing them the ropes or teaching them like an apprentice in a trade. Getting people to think that the only way they'll get their music 'heard' is by devaluing their expertise is a pretty underhanded method. And the fact that someone would say up front that they would get money from the music being used but the composer would not get anything in return is just plain arrogance.

Perpetuating the thought that an artist has to slave away and starve themselves to move up even an inch in this world is not helping anyone but the greedy people taking advantage of artists. At least offer them something for their trouble, anything of value, not some cop-outs like 'experience' and 'think of the exposure' unless you can deliver that exposure.

You might be inexperienced with the indie games community but that damn well sure isn't how it works. Unless you're willing to give, don't expect anyone to give back.

...

That was probably a little too angry...

may have caused confusion with those two sentences so close together. 7days till i finish it, then i will spend a couple of weeks looking for a sponsor and getting it sold- before i release it.
I audibly sighed when I read this.

Good luck though.

Same. :/

There's still some sandbox stuff in there, I think less so in 2, but still quite a bit in 3. Like you make The End die in two ways besides battling him. One being to shoot to him when you first see him and that makes him explode. Not sure why he explodes but okay. The second is when you're in the boss fight with him, save your game, set the clock ahead a week on the PS2 and then play the game and you find out the End died of old age while waiting for you.

Then after all that you can eat his parrot.

I think I need to go play that game right now...

Yeah, MGS has so many cut scenes that someone took all the cutscenes of each game and made movies out of them. They ALMOST make a complete movie without any gameplay. There a little 'well how did he lose the battle?' here and there, but you can basically watch the MGS games as movies.

But then again, I like the MGS games for the cutscenes. :D

What do you expect? It was Disney. d:

I think Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link was pretty intense, despite the fact that it's dang hard to kill skeletons.

@KM: It seems to be a growing phenomenon to have gamer moms.  My mom plays Professor Layton games and Maplestory like a junkie.

Oh, for the record, I still think that Superman 64 sucks.

Well, the thing is my mom is more hardcore into games. >_>; She's beat every Zelda game from 1 to OoT (yeah, she beat Zelda 2), she's beaten FF1, 3-6, loves Soul Blazer, and kicked the crap out of Dracula in Castlevania 2.

So yeah, not a regular gaming mom. Ninja

The screen displays fine when it's in its slot, but outside, I can't turn it on.

Perhaps it's time to put a new battery in? Wink VMU's get power from the Dreamcast when in the slot, but outside they need their own battery.
You'd think that was the problem, but as with KM, I've tried replacing their batteries plenty of times, and none of them work (I think I have two or three with screens).

Mine was also a knock off brand VMU, so that may of had something to do with it.

I really want to try out the level editor. :D

It's okay. Eventually I got the trinket, and I've called the law firm of Stabby, Stabby and Krebowskowitz and told them to cool their jets. You can probably stop looking over your shoulder now.

I mean, assuming they check their voicemail.

Seriously, though, great game. I still have the music stuck in my head.

Speaking of the music. I posted a short review of PPPPPP on tigmn this morning after playing the game. The music rocks. Been listening to it all day today. :D

Fushigi no Dungeon 2: Furai no Shiren is way awesome, I don't own a Wii but the series is top-notch.

My mom likes that series also.

Yeah, my mom plays games, you got a problem with that?   Hand Shake LeftMock AngerHand Shake Right

That's a another thing I don't like. Achievements hardly ever unlock anything anymore. Sad I like unlockables...
554  Developer / Creative / Re: Least Moving Games on: September 10, 2010, 02:05:05 PM
I was going to say that too, you have all of these crazy events happening, each interesting in their own ways, and you just end the game, and then you have to pay for the game to continue.
dick move.

Oh, the expansions continue the game? I thought they just opened up new areas to explore.

If that's the case, well, the story wasn't good enough to continue to play anyway. :D

I don't get a feeling of accomplishment if it's just given to me. That's why I don't like cheats until after I've beaten a game. Then I use them to break the game or do cool stuff. Flying cars GTA:VC FTW. :D
556  Developer / Creative / Re: Least Moving Games on: September 10, 2010, 11:59:41 AM
Syndicate - I played it for days striving to complete it. When I finally made it all I got for my trouble was the damn credits. No end sequence, no concluding text, nothing, not even a well done, just ten minutes of credits. I never played the game again after that.

I hate when that happens. >:|

Fallout 3.

*SPOILER*
You have all the utmost radiation protection available equipped. You walk into the chamber to save everyone and die anyway. Then the game just ends, even if you don't do it. No after story really at all, and you can't even continue if you didn't do it. Sad Oh well, didn't really enjoy the game that much anyway.

I think he's pretty well known for Spotless Mind because it had an all star cast. Most people I've mentioned the movie have heard of it at least, some haven't seen it.

I really liked it too. :D
