that's super awesome Hempuli. Have you thought of trying nudging a few random frames up or down a pixel or two to get that old shaky cinefilm feel?

Ahoy thar - kittehs!

You had best be doing something with this. I will play the shit out of this game if it is made.
I am, I am - I'll setup a devlog with more info next week, promise (should have done so ages ago, but I have been too distracted by other things)

It would be cool to have a faceplate adapter where you can plug in old roms and controllers - downside means more clutter, but at least you wouldn't have to re-buy the same games over again.

It better have a SNES cartridge slot - or at least some usb dongle that lets you plug in snes carts!

try making the crest a bit bolder - remember the water is changing direction so there's going to be a curve at the top as it begins to fall downwards

Thing in progress. Shrug
Cool - is that a boss of some kind?

Thats so cool!
what did you make it for?
Thanks! - it's from a game that has been made extreeeeemely slowly. I really should setup a devlog...

I've always had unlimited love for waves like that. Is that a loading deck or is this a very subtle and clever loading screen because I think it would be the best one ever.
That's an awesome idea to make it a loading screen! But no, sadly it's just a normal loading deck right now.

Ah!  I was wondering where your awesome icon came from.  This looks great.  I keep looking at the water, actually.  Good job!
Thanks P-Flute, I`ll see if I can work out a way to record/show the water animating.

Cool scan Nix - that cat story looks pretty nuts, like the way all the dogs are at the bottom powering it Smiley

and "Kitty Sark"! haha yeah, i should have made the boat more ye-olde style

I've not seen that book, what happens in the story?

a waterfall top highlight sounds like a good idea - here's and example from an old arcade game, Willow:

Looks like there was one looping anim for the crest/top and another for the main falls.

that video looks cool - reminds me a bit of that old Atari game Stun Runner. You should post a screen shot in this thread though, I'm normally too lazy to follow links without a hint of what I'll find.

I tried to make a little mockup for a 8-bit slasher/td game. I'm not very experienced at pixeling so I'd like to read some critics about it.

The guy looks cool - sheild is perhaps a bit egg-like, maybe simplify the shading so it reads better. I like the background gradients, but the floor looks like it doesnt match the background style. Red-blob enemy is scary Smiley

Anybody know when we'll get the results?

bbc news site suggests about 8pm tonight for the AV results.

will you be able to swap from 3d to 2d like you could with R-type on the 360?
357  Developer / Art / Re: Mockups, or the "Please say this is going to be a game" thread on: May 04, 2011, 01:16:02 PM
That a slick mockup, Relix. Awesome tiles, a great palette and the new waterfall effect looks excellent to me. The only thing that bugs me is that the foliage looks a bit flat. I'm not even really sure why, but I think it might have something to do with the dark outline.

Here's some things I did:

I've been plugging away at this. I abandoned the little green bird in favor of a Tomba! inspired jungle boy. I'm also increasingly abandoning even rough NES restrictions. I'm more just abusing the NES palette at this point. I'm not super happy with the crab either. I feel like neither enemy really matches the style of the rest of it.

That bat in the lava cave needs work. I just wanted a semi-appropriate-if-generic enemy to stick in as a place holder.

that looks super fun!

Why would you ever draw anything with a mouse? Seriously this shouldn't even have to be asked.

I just find the mouse waaay faster for pixel work (too much Dpaint use on the Amiga you see)

I pixel with a mouse - but everything else (2d) tends to be on the wacom.

This is a pixel version of a 3D astronaut thing I just finished off:
