1102  Player / General / Re: The Video Game Movies Thread on: April 26, 2009, 02:24:13 PM
Fun fact: The wrestling game in the movie Wrestler is an actual videogame written from scratch for that scene.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wrestler_(2008_film)#Production
thats interesting...a fictional full functioning nes game.

Gianas Return
http://www.gianas-return.de/
release date: easter 2009 (according to the news on the site)

seems that it could be a pretty good sequel according to the screenshots and the videos. no demo available. but three older gameplay videos here

update.
new good looking gianas return trailer.
hopefully it will be released this month.

new screenshots of the swamp level. hopefully the game is nearly finished...
anyways, a few months ago the developers said that it will be released around easter...
i expect a soon release and it would be fine when they could manage it to release it in this month, cause it looks like a really good platformer!

I've chosen to leave the course I was doing in games development, as it was pretty crap and really time consuming. Now I have the freedom to focus on, and work full time on Ainevoltas 3...

"The Little Things is a puzzle-platformer with a focus on exploration and collection. There aren't very many places you can die and the generally twitch controls are downplayed. The point of the game is to explore your world both above and below ground and collect the titular Little Things -- small living beings that can survive in tiny glass flasks and cages, which range from small insects and tiny creatures to worldly spirits and magical wisps. As a Lomite Collector, your primary task is to explore the fantastic world and collect these tiny things in their natural and unnatural environments, but along this path you'll also find yourself selling and trading them to interested buyers for specific equipment and tools, visiting strange people and places, and encouraging metamorphosis of your Little Things through animistic and alchemical means.
In short, it's Knytt meets Pokémon, without the combat."

Tech Demo

since today theres the public demo out.
http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=428895

"Time for that demo I promised! 13 screens of playable demo world await, along with a completed UI, game system, and several catchable, changeable things. My first proper demo release, rather than just a tech demo with all the features crammed in one room.
There's stuff to achieve, things to do, places to see."

oh...i recognized that i havent included this fine gem to the list yet.
so here we go:

Teeworlds
http://www.teeworlds.com/
(current version 0.51 from 25.01.09)

teeworlds is a great fast paced multiplayer platform shooter with similarities to soldat and an excessive usage of the good old grappling hook.

thanks kYn for informing about this game!
looks pretty nice  Smiley
1116  Feedback / Playtesting / Re: 4 games on: April 17, 2009, 01:33:45 PM
seems pretty good to me. simple and effective.
the doodled symbols are looking nice.
and color wise: brown and blue are harmonizing pretty well.

but maybe rethink the sound effects that occur when one is hovering over the top navigation.
(but would be better to ask other people before about that...cause i dislike sounds on websites in general...worst is when a song is played when entering a site...)

also: just checked your ovderdose game. not bad  Wink

Uh, isnt that your own game you're posting in the promisingly good games thread? Tongue
what gives you that idea?
im not a programmer...and if i would be a programmer then i would mention it when a game would have been developed by myself.  Smiley

spotted some fine pixel art at the show us some of your pixel work thread of an platformer called the island.
the shown stuff in the gameplay video looks fantastic so far!

Warhogs Revamped
http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=421676
http://wraxulgaming.weebly.com/war-hogs.html

gameplay video  (level 1 with boss battle)
( 3:07 min / 23 MB - 640 x 480 MP4)
http://www.mediafire.com/?cgyeynqnjrz

or on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O87PTXtFG7I

a promising platform shooter which is heavily influenced by contra and metal slug.
(more contra similarities though).

the graphics and controls are fine but the game lacks in level design, and overall difficulty problems...
(the 1st level is pretty good but the later are lacking)
this game has some good potential and could be really good with some work on the mentioned issues.

i recommend to give the 4 level demo a try
(but consider that the keyboard is not working when a gamepad is plugged in...the developer said that this problem will be solved in the next release)

also interesting:
warhogs revamped is a remake of warhogs.
i played through the 5 levels in 20 minutes and it was pretty fun despite some flaws.
heres a gameplay video of the whole first level (with boss fight that was quite a bit unfair Wink
( 3:34 min / 17 MB - 640 x 480 MP4)
http://www.mediafire.com/?z0mymjmyvmo

moreover some already finished worthwhile freeware platform shooters to check out:

hurrican (tribute to turrican. 5 years in development)

t2002 (remake of turrican 2)

t4funeral (tribute with t2002 engine)

streambolt desero (short but fun with similarities to gunstar heroes)

mission extreme (retro platform shooter fun)

blob wars (bloody mission based platform shooter)

blip and blob (bloody comical platform shooter)

atomic butcher (bloody platform shooter with 360° shooting)
