Is that what Action 52 would look like if it was actually amazing?

If anything, this will only deter potential developers. I could wholly imagine someone giving up on GM for fear their game would be stolen.

Beating that game made me feel so satisfied.

So 2010 gave us our huge amazing indie games, like Super Meat Boy and Minecraft.
We also got some underrated classics, like Snakes of Avalon and Space Funeral.

But dammit, we can get indier than that. This topic is about extolling the virtues of the indie games of 2010 that haven't even made it to the list of underrated.

These... are the under-underrated games of 2010.

Paradise Fort

This game is one of the most complicated defense games I have ever played, partly for the tough button control, and partly for the unforgiving difficulty curve. But dammit, it's still a ridiculous amount of fun. Made for the Ludum Dare 17, it wasn't a winner but still must be checked out.
Download it here.

Red Rogue

It's a roguelike with a twist, and I love every damn second of it. The concept is simplistic, and it's easy to master, but nevertheless it remains addicting. It's not finished yet, but as it currently stands, it's awesome.
The game topic is here, along with the current build in Flash.

Spectrum Boy

A puzzle platformer with color-based challenges and a calm Braid-like style. Surprisingly addicting.
Game topic is here.

This is an open topic here; if you know a great game from the year past that hasn't had enough love, let us know.

HEY LOOK EVERYONE IT'S AN INCREDIBLY SHITTY RENDITION OF THE MAIN CHARACTER

Wow, that thing gets shittier the more I look at it. Still, the basic concept exists.

I figure I'll cut and paste te suggestions together to make a name, like Rick Pummelking or Biff Wrenchfist. I love Marquis du Queensbury, though, and I'll prolly find a place for that name somewhere. Do need a name for the actual game, though.

The vibe I'm trying to get is a sort of epic-comedic style, kind of like Castlevania if Richard Belmont decided to kill Dracula with his bare hands and Dracula was playing a guitar that could summon zombies. For that reason, I don't want a name that sounds like it came from Gears of War, but rather something more lighthearted but still manly.

Mark Wrenchfist
Kinda like that.

Loving the last names here. First names, not so much. Marquis was good, but I'd rather have something that sounds less French for the main character. He is not French. The French are not real men with real fists.

This whole thing flew by so quickly I'm not quite sure what happened.

If I could make another suggestion for a stage:
The Void
From Fetus/setuF.

Personally I use photoshop, but I understand that's not up your alley.  Noir
It probably would be if I could be arsed to actually use software I need to pay for.

My first impression when I learned about GIMP was "I do not have high hopes for a program that reminds me of Mighty Jill Off."
After using GIMP several times, my impression changed. To "why the hell is this program so needlessly complicated?"

Why do I need to click on everything twice in order to use different instruments?
Why is it physically impossible to move a single selected item?

I find that what I need right now is a program that is free, and that functionally is as close to identical to MS Paint without having to download Windows onto my Mac. I'd use a PC, but my screen is glitched up to the ninth power.

And no GIMP. Seriously.
312  Developer / Design / Re: Showing Dice in Games on: January 02, 2011, 02:15:54 AM
You could literally have the characters throw dice in order to attack and have a quick cutaway screen panel showing what the result was. Then lampshade it by having a character ask why they need to base their attacks on complete luck.

Actually, now that I think about it, I could really use an explanation of what happened.

Still, great game.
314  Feedback / Playtesting / Re: Game Name Clinic - I will rate your game's name on: January 01, 2011, 07:36:56 PM
I'll prolly need a new name for the game, then.

Did I just kill the topic?

Wow, major respect for that game. One of the best GB platformers, up there with Wayforward's other masterpiece, Shantae.
You're forgetting Xtreme Sports. That game was fun.

Thanks for the C+X guys, I didn't really like the surrounding of the whole thing, it felt really bland so I change it up.

I'll use the waterfall for the swamp area of the game.

That guy's totally gonna save the world with a fork.

mokesmoe, get ye out of I Live Underground -- er, wait, no, I locked that thread. Good call, Droqen.
For the record, the game link for I Live Underground is broken.

Off topic, though. This game looks good.

Done. zlib1 is now included.
I still don't frigging have zlib1.
320  Community / Townhall / Re: Sunny the Happy Sunflower: The Game on: December 29, 2010, 05:34:40 AM
the error you got suggests that one of the dll files that should be in the same folder as the game isn't.
I've got libfreetype-6, libogg-0, SDL, and SDL_ttf. Where do I find zlib1?
