Pretty interesting demo! Normal/bump mapping is a really cool effect I would like to see taken advantage of in more 2D games. Here's an example of it in JavaScript/Canvas, and another one in Flash.

I think if a lot of people redirected the time they spend bitching about the interface into playing the game they'd find themselves over the interface hurdle pretty quick.
The problem is that it is simply not fun to learn how to work a silly interface. If a game is frustrating to even simply control, why should one bother with it? There are gazillions of games out there that are much more inviting.

There are many reasons to hate Game Maker, but I'm pretty sure that Game Maker is not the reason your code is not working...

I thought that he was referring to the concepts as opposed to the drawings themselves. He wasn't redrawing the same subject, he was drawing a bunch of different ones to see which one he should extend upon.

The point you're making is a very good one, though. I, too, noticed how professional artists start with ugly sketches that aren't too different from what I often drew, became demotivated, and just left. But soon afterwards they turn them into beautiful works of art. Crazy. Addicted
