Go with Flash :-) Super easy to learn

I stopped right there.

Whoa-ho-ho! That's a long blog post! And pretty interesting, too!  Grin It reminds me a little bit of how I abstracted and planned out my game engine.

Also I am not surprised at all that you're mentally exhausted. By coincidence, I made a big blog post for the first time in a long while about an hour ago. It took a surprising amount of energy out of me!

I added your blog to my Google Reader. Good luck with your games and creation suite!  Beer!

Construct can use Python as an undercurrent, or so I hear.
Yes, it is a bit buggy, but it's mainly because there are a lot of changes with each new iteration, but they're about to hit 1.0.

Also, it's free.

Construct is a pretty interesting project and a lot of people seem to be liking it, but I'm surprised that nobody has yet mentioned that it has a huge downside: it is DirectX-only. This is unsuitable for anyone looking to make a popular indie game today; OS X users make up a very large if not the major portion of indie gamers.

The problem with LÖVE and Construct is that although they look very promising they are still early in development, so I'll have to constantly update my games if I want to continue their development otherwise code will become outdated or defunct.
Constantly?

LÖVE hasn't seen an update since over a year ago.

Something tells me their blog might have been compromised, and that the logo isn't real.
Something tells me your computer might have been compromised, because I do not see what you see.

Oh my, is it April already?

On a serious note, what are they thinking? An entity's logo is a very important thing for building its image/recognition/familiarity. YoYo Games just shot all of that back down to zero because they felt the need to replace their perfectly fine old logo with a generic, cheesy and unmemorable one. Given how dated Game Maker is and with the rise of web games, they won't get even close to rebuilding the previous logo's recognition.

As far as I can see, Mark Overmars has just been shooting Game Maker's foot ever since he sold out.

I'm half-heartedly developing a GM replacement, if that counts for anything.

Other than that, I recommend LÖVE. It has no official interface to speak of, but it is still pretty damn easy to make stuff with it. Plus it's open source and supports the three major desktop platforms!

serious games

An oxymoron if there ever was one.

I'm sorry you got laid off, man. That must feel horrible.  Cry

Hosting via wordpress.com/blogger.com/whatever isn't necessarily a bad thing and it is the easiest choice, but I too prefer setting up and hosting stuff by myself. The great thing about hosting stuff yourself is that you can do anything; you can use any themes and plugins you want and you're not forced to advertise for your blog provider. Wink

I'd start with NearlyFreeSpeech.NET.

It is a very cheap host for websites that don't get tons of visitors and is also a very nice domain registrar (at least compared to GoDaddy). It doesn't have the super-easy auto-install-my-WordPress/Drupal/etc features that many hosts have, but they do have a very helpful wiki and community, so if you don't mind a bit of learning then this host is probably perfect for you!

You get 25 cents worth of hosting for free, which should last you at least a couple weeks for what you're doing (it could last you months or even years if you use a blogging system that doesn't require MySQL), which is more than enough time to check it out and see if you like it.  Smiley

If you sign up and start a site (go to the 'sites' tab and click 'Create a New Site'), you can visit their wiki article on how to set up WordPress. To SSH into your site like it says in the beginning, you can do it on Linux/OS X via the command-line with ssh ssh.phx.nearlyfreespeech.net -l <your username>_<your site name>, and on Windows you can download PuTTY and do it via its interface. If Wordpress isn't your thing, there also are tutorials for dozens of others applications you can use. To register a domain, you can click on the 'domains' tab in the members section and then click 'Register a New Domain', which should be easy peasy for anyone. For everything else there is the grand power of Google!

Best of luck!
670  Player / General / Re: AVG Problems on: November 27, 2009, 04:11:02 PM
I also had problems with the new AVG version, although I'm not sure if it caused freezes. So I dropped the whole thing and installed ClanWin, since I don't care about realtime background scanners and things like that. No problems so far.

Perhaps your anti-virus just isn't detecting them.  Wink ClamWin is considered abysmal by everyone who professionally deals with viruses. http://www.virus.gr/portal/en/content/2009-08,-10-august-05-september

Solution: Install a real antivirus.

Sorry Eraser.  Sad

In other news, I discovered that the lower level you program, the more annoying it is.
673  Developer / Technical / Re: The grumpy old programmer room on: November 21, 2009, 10:08:29 PM
Well, I've just found out the drawing engine I'm using has no concept of locked FPS. Best it can do is get around the general area. Ex: I set the max FPS to 60, the program will go from 58-63 fps. Unacceptable, because it's not constant and thus can be twitchy...

If you need the speed of your game to stay constant, you can base animation and movement on time instead of frames, no? That's what LÖVE seems to do. Either way, I don't think that small fluctuations at 60fps should be noticeable to any human being, unless the game you're working on is something reliant on exact timing like rhythm games.

I think it's awesome that this thread lasted from before the time I was banned to afterwards.  Smiley

You may be able to get a ton of e-publicity with this by submitting it to Newgrounds, just FYI. They love this kind of stuff.

welcome back

skofo, what do you think about crush fetish, where people crush insects for sexual pleasure: moral or not?

(yes the above is a trap to get you banned for another year, don't really answer if you want to stay here)

Must... resist!  WTF

I welcome back you despite not knowing you.

Truth is, I need the source of your avatar.
Kidding. But the source is really appreciated.  Noir

Thank yaw, and I have no clue. A couple of my friends say that they saw it in a hentai image but I have never seen it.
