History of Dîbeshkodak, "Crazydrinkers"

Diary of Flintstriker Rodummomuz

Granite 1st, 74

After the travel, now we are here. Seems like a good place, some hills, some stones, some trees, nothing worth noticing.

Felsite 2nd

The settlement started to take form this last days. The quarters are in place, and we already have thought out how to make the stockpiles and the farms. I'll have to spend mostof my time making gears and stuff for the irrigation system.

Hematite 1st

Summar began, and most things are in place. In a month or so the farms should be producing. Sanitation isn't exactly good. Every once in a while some tunnel or room fills wtih miasma. Guess everyone is too busy to dispose of rotten lizards and stuff like that.

Hematite 3rd

Dôbar built the floodgate, but with himself on the wrong side. The mechanism isn't in place so he will have to wait. Anyway he's sleeping so I guess I don't have to hurry to do it. Was it so hard to stand on the right side?   ...     ...    ...   What an idiot.

Hematite 8th

I finished with the floodgate, so Dôbar is out. He isn't complaining much, and seems quite happy for a guy that spent four days in a wet rocky hole. Well, whatever.

Hematite 22nd

Dôbar is stuck again. Is it so hard to put a floodgate from the right side? What's his problem? He interrupted my job with this.Does he think everyone is doing nothing better than opening doors for him?

Malachite 12th

Macaques stole some food this evening. Little bastards. At least a couple of plump helmets isn't important, we still have enough fish to make it until the farms start giving food, and there is much more in the river.

Limestone 1st

Autumn is here. Farms are almost in place, but we let too much water in, and now we wait for it to dry away. We are running short on drink, but I think we will make through. We knew this kind of things might happen when we signed up, but this is awful. Otherwhise, everything is running nicely.

Limestone 15th

The caravan is waiting for me at the trade depot. I was just declared broker and bookkeeper of the settlement, which is good, although it might be too much when added to my vurrent work.

We don't have much to trade, but we will surely get something.

Limestone 16th

Made a trade with the caravan. I left a nice profit, but it was a couple stone decoration I did quickly for beer, so I'd say I took the best part. Also, I took a bismuth bar, so they could handle the weight. I'll try to trade some more before they leave.

Limestone 23th

Traded some fish and two armor stands for a tin bar, a bag and seeds. I don't think I could trade anymore, so I leave it like it is.

Sandstone 18th

The trader have left. Some kobold thiefs wandered around but left empty handed.

The farm is giving a nice harvest of plump helmets. And small shaft are being dug looking for veins of useful materials. Thay barely started, but reached what seems like marble layer.

Sandstone 22nd

Already found aluminum and copper. Also, there's megnatite along the river, so we have iron and steel. But there are no signs of magma, and there's suppossed to be a magma vent near. It's good there is bituminous coal near.

Timber 13th

Migrants arrived today! A woodworker, a metalsmith and a planter are the most notable. The herbalist and the woodcrafter will surely have some work. But I really don't know what a soap maker might do. Maybe he should join the two peasants as a recruit.

Moonstone 1st

The winter starter, and no much has happened lately. Everything works smoothly. The miners have found sphalerite and platinum, and we will start transforming the bituminous coal to fuel. In a few months we should be able to arm some recruits.

Opal 2nd

Today a kobold thief tried to enter, but Kosoth crushed him with her axe. Those kobolds are as weak as they are stupid.

Granite 1st, 75

The settlement made through a year. Quite succesful I'd say. We hae food, drink, and we are about to start making weapons and armor. I expect a lot from this year.

I had to use the wiki and the let's play a number of times, mostly for forgetting monuments and details. And hidden teleporters. I'd had to use it a lot more, but as I'm playing it with my brother, that makes things easier

Has anyone actually contacted Nigoro about Lemeza? I checked in the permissions thread but saw nothing.

Dwarf Fortress

La-Mulana. I've already defeated all the guardians, so it's time to collect ROMs and beat Hell Temple. Then I'll finish it  Tears of Joy
305  Player / General / Re: What are you listening to at the moment? on: January 27, 2009, 09:41:33 PM
Since yesterday I've ben listening Magnetic Fields a lot. To day I listened the whole 69 Love Songs, which an album, with 69 songs. It left almost tired.

I'd say no cheating. But utilities are a go, as long as you don't cheat.

I didn't ask for a chasm! I didn't want it!

The new one has a magma vent but no chasm, that's sure. So this will work.
308  Player / General / Re: DF succession game [Year one] on: January 27, 2009, 11:43:57 AM
Sorry Duckmeister, I solved that. Your post was so conspicuous it was easy not to see it.

Log of Strongpick Esholonkum

Granite 1st, 73

We have arrived at the desginated place just moments ago. Everyone is quite excited with this new opportunity. Just like we where told, it's the valley between two mountains. There are lots of trees and rock in the area, and a brook. We still haven't started doing anything, although Meng already went to fish. I'll take a look around and start to work too.

Just a minutes scouting, and I find we stand just a few feet over a chasm. It will save a lot of time in the mining operations, but it also couls mean horrible news. There are giant rats and cave swallows in there, and right now we can't afford the risk, so we shouldn't go near it until we can put those things down.

I also found a magma vent reching the surface. We'll take special care of it, once we solve the issue of fire imps.

Granite 19th

The mining operations started, and in time, I was needing some hard work. We found some useful gems, but the important is we found hematite. It's good to know we'll have some good iron on our side. But we still haven't prepared the quarters, we have to push ourselves a bit more.

Lately we have been upset about the chasm. We've a giant rat and a swallow wandering around the opening of the chasm, near the wagon. But I'm confident it won't mean problem. Those vermins can't stand a chance against dwarves.

Felsite 6th

Last was a busy month. Now the quarters are done, and we have a few workshops. Also we dug out mos of the farms and the irrigation channel. Now the only thing missing is for Dodók to finish with the floodgates, and then we'l have farms, and we will sustatin ourselves well.

Luck that the giant rat and the swallow went back to the chasm, or at least to somewhere away from us, I was afraid we couldn't end connecting the channels to the brook with the vermins around.

Hematite 1st

Summer came, everything is working fine and the irrigation system is in place. In weeks we'll have our on food, our own booze... mmm, booze.

We still have some shops and the wagon outside, but we'll take care of that soon.

That giant rat is again wnadering near. Saw it when digging the channel. but once we go inside I'll have no reason to worry. Ha, not like a rat could be a problem anyway.

Malachite 14th

Finally the farms are in place, and we are quite content with how things are going. I just finished digging the garbage dump, and we are about to add a dinner room. I'm quite bored about not having a place to sit down, and I know it shouldn't be a priority now, but the communal quarter is not the best, we should consider making adequate quarters.

Malachite 22nd

Today things started to look grim. The muskox we brought walked near the enter to the chasm and was caught by a giant cave spider. Since now we'll have to take care about what we do and where we do it.Those things are dangerous. At least I know noone has a reason to go that way. Also that the spider will attack anything that comes near the fortress maybe this is even good for us.

Galena 4th

The cave spider killed a dog, and seems to be getting closer to the fortress. Noone can go out, excpet to recover the few things that we left outside, it's too risky. I fear about what will happen now

Galena 20th

My strenght has left me, everything is turning black... I'm writing my last words, as the spider is killing my comrades... it attacked us in the door of the fort... only the farmers survived inside... but all they can do is wait...

Log of Edëm Athelamost

Limestone 1st

Autumn has come. Only me and Meng, everyone else is dead. I hope the winter caravan will come and kill the spider. Otherwhise, wel'l never be able to leave this place, and noone will be able to make it in here. But we don't have a trade depot, so maybe the caravan might ignore us. If so, we are doomed.

Limestone 16th

The caravans didn't came near. I guess the liaison will come for a meeting. Poor guy. We are doomed.

The liaison didn't even saw the spider, maybe it left.

Limestone 29th

We awaited, but we can do nothing. The spider left the entrance. We'll leave now. I can't believe things ended this way.

Well, I still haven't ended year one, but it went horrible, awful stuff happenned, and now I only have two farmers. I'll post the log later. It was horrible  Cry

Do we keep this one, if it's even possible when the year ends it's doomed. I start a new one, or I let the next in the list, Battlerager, do it?
311  Player / General / Re: DF succession game [Year one] on: January 27, 2009, 07:52:08 AM
The one Markham posted. If it's a problem, I just started, so I could just re-start with another version. But it's running nice, and looking at the Bay12 forum, doesn't seems to arise troubles.
312  Player / General / Re: DF succession game [Year one] on: January 27, 2009, 07:11:55 AM
In you are.

How do we pass the saves, through mail, or with some hosting service, like Rapidshare or ZShare?

The game started!

I found a great place, lots of stuff, but the details will come with the yearly debrief.

Seaside isn't much fun, and it isn't fun if it doesn't lasts, so better a neutral area.

Later I'll try to find one with a underground river and/or magma.

Okay, let's do a sucession game! Beer! Hand Thumbs Up Right

Aynone interested is welcome!

I still haven't actually started anything, so let's discuss how the fortress should be. IIt should have some feature? Magma, seaside, polar? Just a plain fortress with rock, trees and a river?

If you don't know what a succession game is, it's to play a collective fortress, in the game Dwarf Fortress. Every player takes the fortress for a year, posts what happenned, usually from the point of view of one of the dwarves, and the next one takes it. The famous example is Boatmurdered.

Also if you are new to DF, a couple of useful links:

Wiki http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Main_Page

Tileset http://mayday.w.staszic.waw.pl/df.htm

The game is on!!  Hand Metal Left Mock Anger Hand Metal Right

The rules used are taken from Boatmurdered:
Quote
One year = one turn, from spring of one year to spring of the next. Once you see the cheery green "Spring has arrived!" text, save it, zip it, and get it to the next player. [...] Feel free to break your turn up into a bunch of posts, but let's try and keep it moving along.

Once it's your turn, you get a week from the time that the link is posted to take your turn. If you start but can't finish, your successor has the option to pick up where you left off and play out the rest of your turn and their. If you don't start, then the old savegame just goes to the next player. [...]

The players are, in order:

*Lucaz
*Battlerager
*Hideous
*Redoubtable Trout
*Markham
*GeneralValter
*TeamQuiggan
*YagerX
*Duckmeister - Current (13/4 to 19/4)
*Cheater
*Bob le Moche
*ACardboardRobot
*Dacke
*Bood_War

If anyone is interested, sign ups aren't closed.

Tried it, it looks and works nicely. Runs an average of 20 fps, if iit matters.

I took a few screenshots.

Looks like Mario with a different stereotype. Boring.

But who knows? Maybe they do something worth playing.
319  Player / Games / Re: The TIGS Wheneverly Game Discussion Thread II [DWARF FORTRESS] on: January 25, 2009, 11:46:29 AM
That'd be nice. Beer!

About carps, the fortress I started for this, that failed quickly and I abandoned before a year, had lots of carps, but the one real danger was the sea lamprey. Usually a channel with a grate will stop carps of being a problem.
320  Player / Games / Re: The TIGS Wheneverly Game Discussion Thread II [DWARF FORTRESS] on: January 24, 2009, 08:46:44 PM
I'm quite happy with the interface, and only use the mouse when creating shafts for mining operations. I'm so used to it, I don't actually remember which are the hotkeys, but I instinctly press the right ones.

I'd tell the history of my fortress. But all my fortress have an amazing history of nothing interesting happening. Sea side fortresses are nice, but not even goblins bother to come by. I hold hopes of having something like an undead whale, or whatever.
