John, those are just judging categories. I.E. if your game was fucking awesome in, say, everything but humor it wouldn't matter. I think the purpose it to accommodate/recognize equally and fairly all of the different kinds of work that might go into a game over the weekend.

You can just scale it down and it'll be lossless since he scaled it up without interpolation.

These look great, but I can't help but feel that they're too smooth if you're putting them in a game, or are you gonna make them play faster ingame?

Of course I could be wrong because it's kinda hard to judge withouth seeing it in action.

It shouldn't look "too smooth" unless the rest of the game doesn't follow up consistently.
