Maybe it's just a custom that's been ingrained into developers as the right thing to do?

Player / General / Scrolling east

I was just thinking... almost every 2d sidescroller has the player moving east, rather than west.
I'm guessing that this is because we read from left to right, therefore it is logical that our games move in that direction also.
So, what about the cultures that read from right to left, or up to down? DOWN TO UP? WHAT?
Would this feel odd to them? Would moving from any of the other directions feel more natural?
Discuss.

I was listening to this one this morning, and my housemate came out of the bathroom and announced that she really liked it, and wants to put it on her iPod. One suggestion I would make is to pull the harp down in the mix a bit, as it's kind of overpowering, mostly because of the huge reverb; that much resonance steals a lot of bandwidth, and drowns out more subtle sounds. For me it would work better at about 60% of its current volume. Great track otherwise, though! A really good idea, I'll keep it in mind

@sereneworx: I'm in love with the first one. Can't wait to hear that one ingame They aren't music for any games. They're definitely not suitable.

Man this thread is full of spam spam spam I suppose I should give some sort of nonsensical update: As the acrobatic Michelin man in his orange scarf passes in front of a similarly orange tree his scarf seems to disappear. BUT DON'T WORRY, IT'S STILL THERE. Also, I thought I had posted this, but I don't actually think I did:
