This game is LITERALLY unplayable for 6 days because I don't want to play with faggots or trash talk every 2 seconds and troll in Low Prio. He deserves his ban.

I'm also referring to "self-education" in the vein of honing your craft through reading, tutoring, mentoring, etc.
Nothing someone does is done in a vacuum. They were taught by someone, who was taught by someone else, ad infinitum. Innovation and iteration on proven designs and concepts are the cornerstone of modern society, and without education to teach those proven designs - especially public education, which paved the way for the Industrial Revolution - we wouldn't be where we are.

That's not so much Indian influence as Aryan influence. Aryans split into multiple tribes, many of which pushed to all corners of the Earth, so it's understandable that words in languages of antiquity share common roots.
It's not so much influence of Indian culture on Mediterranean culture (there was some, but not much compared to Arabic or Egyptian influence) as they come from the same original source (the Aryan tribes).

Well I am talking about the masses. I don't think a lot of people in our world are educated with Philosophy, even if western society is based on that. What I understand by solving issues with education is making people smarter and eventually make them do the "right" choices on their own. I don't see how that will happen though, I am sure there are smart well educated people who are completely psychopath and violent. Or maybe you meant it will bring prosperity?
The point behind mass education is that you don't know who the next Socrates is. Teaching everyone to be literate, to apply the scientific process, to perform critical analysis, to create works of art, can only be beneficial to society as a whole. It does negatively impact some professions (any profession that "anybody can do," like writing or skilled labor), but it's helpful to have everyone able to communicate and express themselves and understand the past. UGH! that's totally untrue, roman and greek philosophy have massively ripped off from egyptian and old indian philosophy (through sanskrit writing), especially when many great "greek" were borned and died in egypt and never have left it. Egypt itself concentrate the whole middle eastern and african knowledge of the time through sheer geographic determinism, not countin the huge influence of arabic philosopher after that. To say that greek laid the fundation is a a travesty of history and how knowledge evolved. But a huge part have been literally wipeout of history, mostly the african part, western start to be really a thing, after being essentially the less developed part of the world (middle age or dark age) when they open they influence back and rediscover the work of old civilisation (greeks) spurring renaissance, which also prompt huge ambition and history revionism (painting were altered to erase important foreigner and mix race as painting restoration can attest). That's a propaganda that still work to this days and is essentially a lie. The get to know that especially the whole slavery trade this rethorics was even more enforce to justify the "savage" nature of black people, ie erasing hint of civilisation.
I roll Egyptian philosophy in with Greek, because Greece actually colonized Egypt for quite a while and that combination Greek/Egyptian culture is what made its way into Western philosophy. You overestimate the influence of Indian culture on Western civilization. India and China had some exchange with ancient cultures, but not a whole lot. However, you UNDERESTIMATE (and this is the main sticking point for Greco-Roman domination of European culture) Arabic contributions. Arabs contributed heavily to Western culture - through trade and exchange with a Greco-Roman society (Byzantium) - thanks to the caliphate and emirate golden ages. Things like mathematics, philosophy, and science are often ripped straight from Arabic creations. Many of those Arabic creators were influenced by and trained by Greco-Roman people, though, so I guess it's impossible to escape. If you like, I'll amend "Greco-Roman" to be "Mediterranean."

Greek philosophy was heavily influential on Roman philosophy and culture, including government. Rome was used as a template for most European civilizations (after its fall, mind you), and Greek philosophy is still the core foundation that European, Western civilization bases its principles on.
We've obviously gradually moved to a more multi-philosophy system, but the idea that education and culture - arts, philosophy, science - are not heavily influential is quite literally insane. Many of our most famous principles and axioms come from students, and education builds a core understanding which is then elaborated on with each generation. It's the basic tenet of science, and it's why educational institutions are also research institutions.
Try building a rocket without being educated in modern physics. Chances are you won't get anywhere!

The civilized world could not exist as it is today without guns and cars, but education(for the masses) wasn't really a big part of what the world is today.
Except that all modern society is based on education of Greek philosophical principles, and said guns and cars would not be around if someone had not been educated in scientific theory, etc etc How does this relate at all though.

Even still, PewDiePie has 12+ million subscribers and that video has been watched 2.6+ million times so far. Just seems like it could have done better.
He has that many precisely because he doesn't do better.

UNGGHGhg God damn, love how it's all the same derivative yelling and pretend anger about the bad things in the video game, Fuck Yeah, I'm 30.
There is a lot of that sort of thing, but there are plenty of good commentators who have interesting things to say in their LPs, and don't act like/pander to children (PewDiePie is most definitely not one of them). Find one who fits you, and it's a similar experience to sitting on the couch next to one of your friends while he/she plays a game and you watch. im an adult (mentally + physically) how physically adult are you

In a very blunt way, as well, rape leaves direct victims that suffer from traumatic disorders for years following. It's a far more disturbing event in relation to someone's life than violence.

This is not a path you want to head down, Mr. Bones. Eva is far more experienced at baiting you into expressing an opinion that will get you banned than you probably expect.
Leave this thread. Eva, don't bait the MRAs too hard.

I've never seen Pulp Fiction.
*cracks knuckles* Alright so I'm gonna talk about HLM2 since I talked to Dennis for like an hour and a half at E3 regarding this video game. Keep in mind that I am not commenting or condoning what happens, I'm just sharing what I was told.
So.
Hotline Miami 2 is intended to be a reactionary game, specifically: the reaction of Dennaton to the reception Hotline Miami received, both good and bad.
The oft-talked about rape scene, which is inarguably the grossest scene in the demo and actually made me sick to my stomach, was explained as a reaction to complaints regarding the woman you rescue in the first game. It's contextualized as a movie showcasing the life of Jacket; the movie director is warping Jacket's life to fit a preconceived narrative: that Jacket was a rapist and that the woman he rescues in the first game was sexually assaulted and held in bondage.
The second part of the demo I was shown depicts a gang of thugs that idolize Jacket. They fuck up a group of drug dealers, and then come across a man who was held hostage and forced to take drugs (and is almost braindead as a result). They call him scum, pull him onto a table, and slowly beat him to death.
It's a story about the corruptive power of media and time, about how narratives and myths can turn ugly as they age.
Once again, not condoning the faux-rape scene. It's undeniably gross, even in context. It's also undeniably their goal to be gross.
---
I concur with Paul's assessment in that it wouldn't hurt to allow players to skip that scene. Other scenes in games, such as the famous (and tone-deaf) airport scene in MW2, were skippable based on how bad they are.

qft ive been meaning to try a burnout game, but i heard paradise is worse than the ps2 ones, confirm/deny
Different, not really worse. It's a lot of fun, to be sure. It's just a pain in the ass to get to races sometimes. I think everybody saw it coming
No kidding. --- I like it's all going to charity. The important games in this bundle: Sims 3, Crysis 2 (Crysis 2 is the best in the series and has REALLY GREAT multiplayer), Dead Space 1, Mirror's Edge
