That's what I'm saying all the time: business kills creativity and productivity. A reason why I don't want to work on video games in the industry, I can't be creative this way.
Sure is indie around here

No wonder why japanese producers are so racist...-_-;
You're joking, right? Actually, certain sectors of Japan's gaming industry are quite xenophobic, even more lately. Since the events around Rapelay, that leaded to feminist groups demanding Japan to ban games with rape, which they did, and also lolicon, which they didn't, lots of japanese developers took a "leave us alone and play your own games" attitude towards the west. The low sales and high piracy rates outside Japan don't help either. But this is mostly from the eroge developers that never cared much about the foreign market, as most of those games aren't translated nor sold outside Japan. Also, doujin develeopers never cared about that market neither, and the overall number of untranslated games that aren't eroge, visual novels or some other overly japanese genre is big. What I'm trying to say is that this is NOT a good example of why their racism is... "justified" I bought this game. I thought it was pretty good as far as an independent visual novel goes. If you could actually read the damn scene, like those idiots at MS Europe probably couldn't, it was actually a sweet scene. Yes, he was trying to force himself on her [an underage girl] but it was only a fit. He later resigned himself and it only proved to grow their relationship stronger and he fell more deeply in love with the girl as a result.
Besides, I would expect more out of MS US. Aren't Europeans all about sex and stuff? I mean, their television is all about sex. Once again, games are given the double standard.

Exponential leveling is only bad when coupled with a game's design.
He is making a roguelike. That was pretty much my point. But nethack (the example you give) uses exponential leveling. I guess I don't really see your point. You can see that at high levels (L>20), the progression turns to arithmetic. You can also see that the needed experience does not follow a fixed formula. I'd say it's close enough to prove my point, and the majority (1-22) is in the beginning. However, I never said arithmetic progression is better; I just said it would feel more realistic. My personal favorite, if you want to know, are the fibonacci numbers(beginning from F2, ending in F20 or F22).
This is actually why I replied, you did say exponential would be 'boring', and arithmetic would be 'realistic' - which really is saying that arithmetic is 'better'(boring is negative, realistic is neutral). Edit: By the way, I'm not replying to the sentences; I just don't want to quote full replies. Sorry if that was why you were confused.
yeah, I think that might have something to do with it. It felt like you were going off tangents and talk about things that were irrelevant to the quote to prove a point. tl;dr: misconceptions occur frequently on the internets.

That couldn't have taken you only one day! You'd have to work on it like... A week, almost nonstop, with only a day's rest or something!

Mockup Frenzies tend to make me sad.
why aren't these real games !?
I think they are awesome and inspiring, because people actually create stuff, and oftentimes a lot can be interpreted from it. The people who do them also learn new things and often create tiles/graphics they can use for other things. I guess it all boils down to if you think the glass is half full or half empty
