ok, i've been gone for a couple of weeks, so this might be a bit out of the drift of the conversation, but i've given this some thought, and:

Myst.

Game was made for nothing more than puzzle solving and artistic expression. I'm sure there are others, but that game is an example of video game art at it's finest. And sure, there are games like GTA 3 and Contra, which are badass but arguably not very artistic... but neither is splashin paint on a peice of canvas. If someone wants to call it art,  it's art for them. If other's agree, no matter how many, then hell, it's art!

wow... i go on forum hiatus for like 2 weeks, and look waht happens! the hot topic has suddenly become hot! lol thats awesome..

admist all the randomly images (including but not limited to pancakes and Nathan Petrelli ) is that the temperature of a topic can differ highly. My hoenest personal favorite is not simply "hot" it is a hot topic where only a few loayl people that you like post, and everyone else comes to watch.  Grin

6  Player / General / Re: Most influential games of all time on: May 20, 2007, 02:55:20 AM
alright, this isn't really a list lol, but here's some that have been forgotten, or downplayed in my opinion (not necessarily MOST influential, but VERY influential, honorable mention kinda thing)

1.Chrono Trigger (It dates pretty far back there, and gameplay and all around wise, its one of my top 5 favorites of all time)

2.Metal Gear Solid (you STILL can't find gameplay like that ANYWHERE else)

3. The old Lucas Arts Adevnture games (MONKEY ISLAND, FULL THROTTLE, the dig, those games helped open the computer gaming industry)

4.The Crus'n series (for noobs, those racing arcade games that always said... you know,  CRUISIIINNG lol... they helped shape racing games as they are today)

5. Either dig-dug or gauntlet legends or hydro thunder... RANDOM i know lol, but all 3 influential in their own ways...

well, first of all, blizzard really isn't baf at all when you compare them to other big game companies today... activison, EA, etc... think about it...

second of all, i wonder which is gonna come out first: starcraft 2, or the starcraft mod for warcraft 3 lol (crossing my fingers and hoping you guys have heard about that)

Ahhhh....
Forumites, new and old, this goes out to you.

Anyone who posts on ANY forums know the feeling of which i speak when i say that there is a certain satisfaction that comes when you realise a topic YOU created has become hot. Admins, Noobs, Level 7's, Rookies, Veterans, Spammers: ALL feel a goodness in the gut when something THEY did, a topic THEY created, heated up until it was defined as "hot." This is cause to lean back in desk chairs and breathe out a sigh of ecstacy, becuase something has been accomplished. A "hot" topic is sizzling with interest, is burning with controversy, is raging with laughter. And YOU created it. Ain't that the truth?!

*crosses fingers and hopes this becomes a hot topic*

...

Haha i dunno, i was bored, but i know at least some of y'all feel me on this...

Personally, I've never really bought into the whole left-brain right-brain dichotomy thing, but if you were implying that I thought that only certain people are "wired for art", so to speak, then I suppose I should clarify a little.

You did clarify, quite nicely i should say.  Smiley

And i don't think this thread is hostile at all, i agree on that, i've just seen these sorts of things be discussed before, and it can get hot. That's all.

hahahahaha
14  Developer / Business / Re: Too many projects... on: April 11, 2007, 10:02:13 AM
thanks for all the great feedback! in my case, i'm struggling NOT to take on anymore projects, not because motivation is down, but because ambition is so friggin high. I mean, iv'e been helping make games for a couple years now, and since i decided to make my own studio, some of the output looks veeerrrryy promising. But i'm just saying, it's hard if things seem to be going pretty successfully, its hard to say no to something else. But yea... thanks all...
