no, i've been busy working out and it's nerd shit for nerds. here's the real star trek though: the scientific progress of man in pursuit of the stars. endless treasures bestowed upon the civilian sector as a byproduct of this great endeavour. fuck the military industrial complex.

wow, people are terrible.
i think the idea that just because we complain about stuff like this that we can't take it may be off the mark: i think people who have to deal with this stuff constantly *can* take it better than most, it's just that they have a lot more of it, so it builds up over time.
i mean, anyone can ignore a random insult here and there. but when you see a few new ones every day that's a little different.
yeah i think a few people misunderstood my response to "video game hecklers" video as me bitching about people bitching when really it was my attempt at letting the critics know what it feels like to be heckled. I can take a punch. ive taken many very very hard punches over the years and learned a lot from them, but just because i can take a punch doesn't mean i need to or enjoy getting hit. people saying mean things is exactly like being punched. you're practically mark hunt.

I can see where you are coming from but is it not possible for someone to have played games with good design and to make suggestions based off of their experiences with good game design?
its possible but not very valid because the person still doesn't have an understanding about now games are made... a good example would be something like "In gish the game would be better if there was just a button that made you jump", the person saying this thinks this seems like a good idea because they dont have an understanding on how the actual mechanics of gish work from a design perspective. or something like "spewer would have been better if all his abilities were unlocked" obviously this suggestion would break the game, but i could see someone without an understanding of game design thinking it would be a fun idea. now these arnt the best examples, but the point im trying to make is when you criticize someone's work keep in mind your understanding of it. there are so many elements that come into play when designing a game that theres no way to understand till you make one.. i think this is a huge misconception among gamers. you ask any designer out there whats the number one thing people tell you when you say you design games.. they will always say "Hey i had a great idea for a game". over the 6 years ive been doing this ive heard this line at least 500+ times... honestly almost anyone i tell in person that i make games tells me this, and ive never heard one good idea come out of it. now that said im sure there are a small minority of people out there whos understanding of game design is awesome, but they have never made a game. and honestly the only thing i can say to those people is seriously make a game, if you do have this understanding about how games are made them please apply yourself and do something creative, in the end it will much more meaningful then criticizing someone's work and also give you a better understanding of what its like to be criticized yourself. that said ill restate again that i think input is very very important, if something i make is frustrating, i want to know what frustrated you, if something doesn't work on your pc by all means tell me.. i need this feedback this is the stuff that matters.. but once you start throwing around opinions, and trying to hurt feelings / attack me... dont expect me to respond well, or respond at all. http://www.jumpcut.com/view/?id=443F92ECAE7011DCA22E000423CF3686

also now that ive actually read your post using an on screen keyboard has nothing to do with the motion sensing stuff which is why it works. its also really really primitive.

the wii (a bad console with bad games) has been on the market for several years without a good boxing game. part of this is due to the technology being bad. this game, too, is bad.
You'd say that about any console not shaped like a gun. i'd say it about any console that is incapable of fulfilling its primary reason for existence. its bad at sensing motion in 3d space because they didnt put an extra tiny component in the shitty controllers. ostensibly it is a console uniquely poised to produce a good boxing game.; except it cant do what its supposed to and is a childrens toy. I dunno, all the motion controls that are built in work beautifully. The biggest problem I've seen is that they're sometimes too accurate -- i.e., the player performs the wrong movement in a game with a lot of specific actions. But yesterday I was typing on the on-screen keyboard with the pointer and playing a game that requires fine accelerometer control, no problem. It felt great. If you think 1:1 motion control == good boxing game, I'd venture to say you're really wrong? I mean, you should know this from whenever you go into public... Average Joes can't box. I think the reason there's no great motion-driven boxing game is less about 3D positioning and more about it invariably turning into Dork Fight 3D (flail your way to victory). all the gesture bullshit is gay and the middleware on the market is all shitty and flailing your arms around is essentially an obfuscated way of pressing buttons. the wii sucks. teaching people to throw a punch right so that they can play the game is as easy as a tutorial. considering a video game wouldnt have to deal with the intricacies of footwork or the things that make boxing hard i am inclined to believe that the reason there hasnt been a good boxing game is because of the technology. maybe their motion plus shit will go some way to rectify this (it is literally one accelerometer that could and should have been placed on the pcb within the remote in the first place) but then you would need two controllers with two add ons. fuck the world!!!
