Just a quick one, updated the level files so they are signifigantly smaller now, you should notice slightly quicker level loads.

well uploaded and saved(makes editing faster some how) the edmund maps and downloaded the final version so I can work on porting it.
I found earlier that the new item the E crate has no instructions nor responds to the Right click when you press on it.

The explosives crate isnt actually ingame at the moment because it doesn't function yet, im doing that shortly, you should be able to place them but they are a dead item.  Keep sendin the bugs through, thanks everyone  Beer!

edit: If anyone would be keen to do a video recording or two and has a machine that could handle it do send me a PM, im still struggling to record the game...

edit 2:  Im removing the dialog out of the weather changes, people can figure that out themselves and hopefully be less anoyed reading the same thing every day haha

Nah thats about normal speed, it runs about 2x that on my laptop too and its slowish, its just really sluggish to record for some reason.  The game is made with mmf2 as are all my competition games  Grin

Grabbing the latest build should have a smooth on/smooth off toggle down the bottom on the menu Smiley

Maps do regenerate, it takes a couple of days for rocks/mounds, trees take some time longer, new animals appear also, I think its set to about 3-5 days, higher for birds and bats however.  The game will autosave every second or so, its all recorded in player.ini in \0\scripts so just copy paste that into another directory if you want to manually save progress.  Lighting a fire will just set your restart point if you quit the game to the fireplace location, it will also act as a warp as explained  Grin  Thanks for checkin it out  Gentleman

To answer the question better, digging actually is the best way to find misc items such as ammo and health packs, yes I know its kinda retarded lol, but the magic that is hiding under those rocks  Cheesy  There is a fair bit of ammo lying around the world though most of it I usually just dig for.  Planting crops is the easiest way to obtain large amounts of food though, med kits/soup/etc are  really only useful because some heal illnesses/ they dont go off/wilt.  Though if your low on ammo you can still solo agressive creatures well with the hammer/chainsaw, the chainsaw especially.  Just be prepared to use some barricades and trap the creature a little.

I think frigates are about 100k, they are usually a good choice for ports vs hull armor, might be a little more as I know its different in the private build to the one on the website, just nosey around the ship builders.

one map pack

what's in it
a badly scripted zombie room
two areas for building and health supplies
a water level and logs that float down(spent too much time on this.)
a the first level of edmund with a twist
a farming area that should have the right tools for farming (this is where I found out what number wood was when I tested it.)
a map use for bear training.
and this is in the warp room the rest of the normal game should have been edited.

to bad I done this in the non reset, wood eating, zombie having version and not the final one... so I don't know how compatible this map pack is.
if you excuse me I have to clear my mind for a second and think up a way to throw in a silly comic for the map pack(and game.)

Your map pack is hillarious, ill add it to the after competition build when I get the chance, give you time to polish it a bit, keen to see the final comic  Cheesy

Thanks dawg   Beer!  Glad you liked

I haven't played much of this yet, but what I have seen so far makes me seriously question how you completed this much within the time restraints. Crazy

Excellent work, sir.

No starcraft 2 and getting hammered at the pub was the main factors  Beer!  Glad you liked

Thanks for the kind comments, actually you can already test the game out from about a month or so back dom2d... in the first post.  A month of delays, heavens, wouldnt be because of the tigsource comp  Cheesy  Glad you guys approve  Beer!

You just got an article...

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/08/05/jim-sim-under-the-garden/

I really should play this game.

Well thats positive, thanks for the find man Smiley  Glad a few people are having fun with the game.

Incredible! You have effectively reduced my workplace to zero productivity this afternoon.

So long as your workplace isnt making the starcraft 2 expansions then thats all good with me lol, if not get back to work and make me some new zerg units!  Cheesy

Any chance of network multiplayer?
Would be great in a game like this

Ill be doing a proper overhaul after black market beta, things I definately want on the list is cleaning up the level files a bit for quicker loading, expanding the world and expanding the item list, maybe mutliplayer I dont think my programming skills are upto that yet, we shall see.  Oh and definately making the assets for the game external so its easier to add different tilesets in.

I was wondering is it possible to code a script to loop it self say like this?
Code:
[run]

say=/obj\56\5\83\/scr\zombie\/end

if so then scripted boss fights can be done... though getting in a end script to work when you kill the key creature is a hurdle

other than that a good 3/4 of the rum'map pack is complete.
all I need to do now is finish figuring out which global number code drops logs(without overloading the game) and launch them to the right of the screen where the player should be.

the same problem effects the edmund level where instead of editing the levels with zombie spawners I was going for a scripted loop to give a more control feel than just zombies out of nowhere for no reason.

which brings me to this questions is there a way to Remove creatures/items from a map using scripts?

Problem with a loop like that currently is it will keep the dialog window open, I guess I should get working on a script loop that doesnt popup dialog boxes... Wood is value 49 im pretty sure.  And there is no current function to wipe the screen, I could add one though deleting specific globals could be tricky.

http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/76867-stdrt-exe-running-windows-temp.html

Im pretty sure its apart of multimedia fusion 2 runtime, i build it on a seperate computer and same thing, so yep thats my best guess.

Edit:  http://www.clickteam.com/epicenter/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=20349

Its because its compressed at runtime, ill do another build without it.

Edit2: Okay its up.  Your gonna need a pretty decent comp to run this, direct x 9, fair chunk of ram, pixel shader 2 prefurable to get all the fancy effects.

Ill be sticking all those extras in when i find time after black market, Im a bit short on time currently and id rather release something decent instead of something half baked Smiley  The other exe might be mmf2, im just checking now.  On that note, if you want me to add something easy like stronger zombie spawner that shouldn't take too long, im mainly talking big features.

Theres 4 animal fur pelts/coats ingame now, which reduce weather damage, theres the six shooter pistol, and chubysnow.inc super potion, because chubysnow wanted a super potion  Grin

I noticed that it a day passes whenever I come back on. The screen that tells you the game has changed days stops time from further progressing, not really a glitch but an interesting fact.

EDIT: Also, it seems it takes a while to find a rifle. I have played this game like 5 times and I have never gotten the rifle even though I have gotten tons of ammo packs, if you could use the ammo packs and load the ammo before you had the rifle it would save a large amount of inventory space. Also if you could drag 2 packs onto each other and combine them that would be great.

Double Edit: I found the rifle, silly me. Also that underwater place where you get the hammer is glitched: Using the availble reinforced blocks you can jump on them to go up the shaft leading you to a new and hidden area. The lighting is very harsh there and not very pleasant for the eyes, but it is a great place to explore. There are a few bats in the first stage and I got a stuffed bat there. But the real treasure is a bit more to the left, there is a huge room and using the same method to get up the shaft I used it to get up the chimney but alas it is a dead end, and same with the tunnel on the right. But if you look closely enough you can find something that looks like a bottle of milk but acts like a Mexican jumping bean. I am keeping that thing in my main house and I keep it as a pet.Really a great find, I wish you could expand upon that place.

Unnecessary Editing: I was reluctant to light a fire in a different home because of the main house I had, what if I could choose only to light the fire for the stamina recovery and not to set it as a checkpoint. Also a backpack would be a pretty useful item, it would take up a space in the normal inventory and give you maybe 3 slots extra space or so. However there would be a catch, to put in items you could simply drag them onto the icon. To take out the items you would have to place the backpack onto the ground. This would open up the inventory directly under the main one.

I really enjoyed the fact that the map looped, however somewhere in the mountain there was a door you had to climb to. Ignoring the fact that climbing is a pain the door would not open, I was really excited to find a door up there but it would not open! If you could explain what that door does that would help. I also could not seem to find the pistol, this may be a coincidence.

Okay lets do it in order, the area you found is the heat caves, if you cross the lake you can access them from the other side/ the hole in the ground, its not a glitch, geez, have some faith.

The rifle is now very close to the start but you start ammoless with it with the introduction of the pistol, which is basically a rapid fire rifle without the accuracy, its badass.  It will also be hidden up in the mountain peaks levels.

Third, the door you found leads to the mountain tops/peaks, which isnt implemented yet, thats what im working on now, so patience Smiley As I said earlier been on black market stuff most of this week trying to get the campaign in, so this hasn't really progressed at all last few days, but ill put in some effort today and try and finish off the mountain peak levels.

edit: Oh ive also added explosives in the game for all those kiddies out there who used to build a massive lego fort then like to smash it/blow it up  Well, hello there!  I know I did
458  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/EDITOR UP!] on: August 03, 2010, 01:38:44 AM
Im adding animal functionality in now but in the static editor the zombie one currently works, it looks like a whited out zombie face with a little + down the bottom, more to come on that in the following days.  It should spawn zombies at a constant rate while not onscreen, ill have the animal one up next build.
459  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/EDITOR UP!] on: August 02, 2010, 07:58:46 PM
This game is kind of amazing. I like the whole feel of the thing.

There was one odd thing, though. I was walking around outside, and when changing maps the screen went dark for an unusual period of time. When it came back up I was back in my hut, and I had a new injury. I assume that was a bug.

By the way, is it okay with you if I make something inspired by this? I feel that I will need much more practice if I am to improve as a programmer, and I might as well get some of it by making something I am interested in.

Yea man thats definately a bug, ive fixed it in the build ill put up later, good find.  Yea man go for it more games the merrier  Grin  Glad you liked it

Or grow food rum? Haha, why does everyone ignore growing food?  Its the easiest way to last along time ingame.  Another change, animals now dont inflict instant death on you, yayyy.

Umm for those modding you will need to update your death1-10.ini scripts in your scripts folder as those warp strings have been replaced at the end with "/deadwrp" which will warp them to the last fireplace when they die.

EDIT: Just fixed the firelvl bug, thanks.  Alllllmoost done with the snowy peak levels Smiley

Wait? You can grow food?

Yes lol, you can grow food, find the seed bag, godamn  Cheesy  Okay i added the pistol in the peaks as its pretty much nessisary to kill 2 bears at once, its a quicker firing weapon but it chews the ammo and its accuracy is lower, animals occasionally drop pelts also which can be worn to reduce cold damage.  Ive also added a super cure potion that removes all illnesses.  Im gonna put it up all at once with the peak levels so hold out Smiley  Oh and the restart button is in thanks chubysnow!
