Haha theres not much I can do about dying 1 step away from the fireplace, thats on you, I usually build up a large supply of wood before venturing out, but the other stuff i might be able to do something about Smiley  I might add super cure type items around the map, like some sort of heal all diseases type potion/s.

Im DEFINATELY gonna add a restart button in right now, excellent suggestion.  As for the mining drops its all basically random, mining was never ment to be a skill that produced a specific result, whereas hunting produces food, seeding crops produces food, lumbering produces wood, etc, mining is sort of the skill thats a game of chance, sometimes you might get a useful item, sometimes you might get a useless box, sometimes you might get food, etc.  I dont see anything too wrong with mining, maybe the problem is people arent finding the seed bag/rifle quick enough.

I would like to hear some other peoples opinions on being indoors completely removes stamina loss?  I mean its no problem to do but ive set it up so depending on the day your gonna loose stamina reguardless, unless ofcorse its a fine day and thats the only exception where your stamina doesnt drain, ideas / opinions?

edit: Also, is anyone else think the rifle is a tad underpowered for killing bears now that they can litterally rampage through your blockades?  I was considering adding a revolver in as a really high tier weapon hidden in the peaks but first keen to hear if people are having problems killing bears also.  And possibly some sort of bow, which starts with a set amount of arrows but can be recollected to up ammo count, and make the rifle a bit more midgame...

Also while we are on item creep, would anyone object to loosing a inventory spot on there character to be able to wear animal furs?  They would reduce stamina drain from cold and would potentially solve the problem above...

Or grow food rum? Haha, why does everyone ignore growing food?  Its the easiest way to last along time ingame.  Another change, animals now dont inflict instant death on you, yayyy.

Umm for those modding you will need to update your death1-10.ini scripts in your scripts folder as those warp strings have been replaced at the end with "/deadwrp" which will warp them to the last fireplace when they die.

EDIT: Just fixed the firelvl bug, thanks.  Alllllmoost done with the snowy peak levels Smiley

Good find on the eating house/wood/firespawn location, fixed.  As far as the boar in the blue feather breeding grounds, theres a boar cavern right under there thats why.  Ummm if you got booted to the menu means you died, did it come up with a message saying you never returned home?

Oh and whats not realistic about keeping your items when you get a illness?

edit: you picked up a bug with the booted to menu thing, just fixing it up now, appears it just flat out kills you without any message if you encounter a boar/bear.

EDIT: okay should be fixed, give it a whirl.

I think you should clarify the efficiency of some tools over the other, of the two tools I found capable of breaking rocks I was unsure of which to keep. My inventory also became full very soon. My main experience playing the game was very fun, the second time I left the house I was out there for 5 days just going left, eventually my trek came to an end at the hands of a bear. Strangely enough the bear left me slightly intact and I killed it and ate the meat to recover, it must have been bad because I died, I got a wound and stopped playing because I was all the way back to my house! Five days of exploring and I was automatically put back to my house, I am curious how any could get far enough to go any place really exciting. I also think you should give a quick blurb about items in the inventory at the top. I accidentally clicked when I acquired some items and I would never know what it did. Thank you for the game.

Ill add in a little blurb about the efficiency of the tools vs other tools in the tier, good suggestion Smiley
tested the zombie finally got zombies but some how I broke it by loading up a different map level oh well.

PM me your mod folder and ill try to remedy the problem for you Smiley

I tried this on my main box rather than my laptop and had a good time building. I feel like some caves and cave hovels are in order, but that can be done later on with some editing I assume (also, maybe I just haven't got up to them yet).

Getting the latest build now to see if it fixes the issues on my laptop.

Theres actually a few cave hovels, keep exploring Smiley  Hopefully it runs fine on your laptop Smiley

EDIT:  The next features ill throw in for the editor is trying to make most of the graphics/audio external, however Ill have to check with compound/craig stern about this because im not sure they want the audio all opened up, giving up the art aint a problem for me though so I might do the graphics first.

Okay rumrusher and Geti try the new build, I cant guarentee it will fix the errors wine is spitting, but setting "noshader=1" in the player.ini should disable all the fancy fire/fog/glow effects, makes the game look pretty crap but it should run alot better Smiley  You will need to do that for all the player.ini files depending on how many game folders you have made  Beer!

On a editor related note, ill continue to iron out bugs and add in the auto spawner stuff, but new features will have to wait till after the compo, black market calls, and I really want to make the mountain peak levels for the main game special, sort of like high end content Smiley
466  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/EDITOR UP!] on: July 31, 2010, 04:01:59 AM
Its most likely something to do with the shaders, I guess the best try would be setting effects=7 in the player.ini file in scripts, if that doesn't work ill hack you up a custom build with all the fancy stuff ripped out Smiley  There is 2 player.ini files also, one per mod folder (1 for main, 1 for the example mod)
467  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/EDITOR UP!] on: July 31, 2010, 01:54:16 AM

New build up, with the first of the humans in the editor, fixed some bugs, added some particle effects, added some static spawners via the static editor which arent functional as such yet for animals but the zombie one works fine as tested in the mod.  And I replaced all those boars with real zombies just before, tried to make a single screen arena game out of it, sort of works  Beer!  Oh aggressive creatures will now batter down walls and stuff now, so you cant perma-trap them inside somewhere without them bashing apart your structure, again check it out in the zombie house mod I snuck in the game, they within 30 seconds will push your house into a series of blocks Smiley

On that note I have some black market work to catch up on, so updates will be slow for a day or three.

Rumrusher it might be your video card, my old v card displays the alpha on the pixel shader stuff black also, hrmmm, might add another flag in player.ini to disable the fireplace effects as you need ps2.0 to see them.

Ill fix that now actually, all the paralaxx stuff in the editor is currently unused  Beer!
469  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/EDITOR UP!] on: July 30, 2010, 05:13:37 PM
Ill see what I can do, ill make the following:

zombie/monster- braindead, just charges animals, humans and you, if he kills a human it sets there spawner to zombie.

human male/female- generic roaming ai that just moves back and foward.

warrior with melee weapon- human who will charge animals and zombies and you if you attack a human on the same screen.

warrior with rifle- shoots at zombie/monster and animals and you if you attack a human on the same screen.

Thought id throw the melee one in if anyone wanted to make something more medieval, that way you can have towns with axemen in it that patrol the edges of town.
470  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/EDITOR UP!] on: July 30, 2010, 04:00:27 PM
The sensors for level swapping are placed relatively close to the ground atm, though I dont think thats a big issue.  Good find on the /nam bug just removed it Smiley  And as far as adding a moral message before he kills a animal, ive decided to leave any moral statements out of the game, aside from the help boxes and the tutorials the game is free from dialog, I think it plays better that way.

EDIT:  Humans are going in now, expect them in the next build to be placeable ingame Smiley  , and special request being zombies, Ill add them also.
471  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/EDITOR UP!] on: July 30, 2010, 04:06:41 AM
dang to think from the ashes of a long walk, door shooting, "rape" sim comes back as a long walk, boar shooting, "farm" sim. it a shame that my slow pc can't handle the alpha but it's won't stop me from editing.

Umm okay new build going up, theres a setting in player.ini which is "wtoggle=0", set it to 1 and it will turn weather off, it will mean days wont progress or hazards wont happen but it will make it run fine on your computer, you might also want to turn off bluring by setting "effect=7".  While we are on that, effect=1 is greyscale, effect=2 is sepia tone, effect=3 is night vision, incase you wanted to make something really wack, effect=4 is blue tint, effect=5 is red tint, effect=6 is green tint.  And effect=7 is for melly and the other pixel people, it turns smoothing off.

anyway images:

And just a reminder for using the /obj spawning script, it will crash if you spawn 1000 entities, so be smart Tongue

Next up ill add a human global enity and a agressive human global, has been the most requested addition next to that Smiley  Keep the suggestions comming.

EDIT 2:

So spent tonight making the game work in sub folders, cleaning it up a little, adding audio support to the scripting system and doing a little example game for those interested, only took about a hour and I mostly used levels from the original game, but the flexability is there to make it less like the original game if I wanted to sink the time.... which I dont its primarily a example file, So who can survive out against the hordes of ZOMBIE BOARS!?! (Yes I know that music I jammed in there is aweful, ill fix it tommorow)

You can now access all the mods from the main screen, yay!

I should add, this game took about a hour to make, and it was made with no custom stuff which is kind of obvious, that being said id happily add some custom stuff if you make something cool Smiley Okay im going to sleep. Ill add that person spawner in tommorow so i can swap boars for real zombies, wooot, and make a static spawner for creatures.
472  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/EDITOR UP!] on: July 30, 2010, 03:12:42 AM
Ill add some functionality into the scripts right now so you can create objects, something like this /obj\xpos\ypos\type\ .

Give me a hour and ill put it in a build and throw it up for you, that should allow you to create animals/global objects via scripts. I sort of left this out intentionally as I know it would make some really retarded type bugs, but thats not my problem if someone wants to spawn 100100101011010 bears or trees or birds onto a map in a split second  Cheesy
473  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/EDITOR UP!] on: July 30, 2010, 02:04:52 AM
lol you loaded a edmund level?  Haha I kind of see it now, the building tile graphics now being replaced by ground haha.  Glad you liked the easter egg, if you have any questions about editing the game let me know Smiley

EDIT: You might be able to do a conversion if the string for each tile was the same, but unfortunately edmund's editor sticks a extra warp string in the level files Sad  That and it uses some of the values from the movement/collision tags where Garden uses physics for most of that stuff now.

Ill also throw a toggle in the next build to turn off pfx so you can edit without the lag, that should sort it.
474  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/EDITOR UP!] on: July 29, 2010, 04:09:21 PM
Man this is impressive.

I still think you should fix some of the wall tiles being the same color as background tiles, making it very difficult to differentiate them, especially with the blurred pixel look. I actually think that should be a priority. Sorry if you already fixed that, but I don't remember you even mentioning that issue. Tongue

Oh, I kind of overlooked that, i might start by brigtening up collidable boxes, see if that makes it more obvious, maybe a slight colour shift, sorry ive overlooked that, black market work was breathing down my neck yesterday Sad

Ill do those minor fixes aswell as save the last place the player killed the game from, and make the number of fireplaces upto whoevers using the editor, hopefully get that new area done soon and throw in lighting, hail and hurricane weather if i find the time Smiley

Anyone needs some custom stuff for the quirky mod they made just yell also, it would be too easy Smiley

EDIT:  You are now able to place your own fireplaces, keep it to 1 per screen peoples otherwise it might bug out Smiley  And collidable house blocks have been hue shifted and lightened.
475  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/ALPHA UP!] on: July 28, 2010, 11:43:18 PM
Okay yall, editor has been cleaned up, so its usable now, and ive also been so nice to include some ingame tools and a brief help file, if anyone has any specific questions to level creation just PM me.  If you make some cool levels ill throw them in the build and credit you ofcorse  Grin

Heres a quick rundown:

Yar, this be the ingame dev tools, you can dump down items in real time to exsist in your world, you can also plant rocks, trees, and dirt mounds, though dont place the trees too close together or it might cause some problems.  You can also wipe the level with the x, and open the static world editor... Open this ingame with f8.

And this is the static world editor, pretty much a generic, hard to use, unoptimised editor, this is where all the static objects are placed and scripts are...

If you have any questions though shoot me a pm, ive included a help file with all the script functions also  Grin  Oh and i fixed the fireplace bug, the warp into a wall bug, the house decay, the freezing on main menu when you try to start again, and a few other odds and ends.

More to come, im still working on the new area, grab latest build here:

man this looks awesome, cant wait to play it  Grin
477  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/ALPHA UP!] on: July 28, 2010, 04:05:38 PM
Im Fixing both these now should be up in a few hours, along with the new area and fireplace bug fixes and removing house collapsing... Then editor cleaning up time so yall can hack into those  Cheesy  Going to include the ingame dev tools also, I dont know how many people would be interested in modding it, so a show of hands if im wasting my time implementing this would be nice Smiley
478  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/ALPHA UP!] on: July 28, 2010, 05:13:57 AM
ROFLS!  Okay that does raise a valid point, it is quite a pain constantly repairing your house and it leaking is enough trouble alone, should I keep the house crumbling effect if you fail to maintain your house?  Or make it more obvious or something?  Maybe highlight it in red or something... hrmmmm.  Any ideas?

EDIT: Ill throw up a build tonight without house crumbling effects, and it will just leak more, making your stamina go down, that might be a bit more friendly, should have the new mountain peaks section up tonight also  Well, hello there!
479  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/ALPHA UP!] on: July 27, 2010, 10:24:21 PM
just shoot me a pm, I got a few typo lists now to work through Smiley  Have fun exploring im just adding in a new area now, gonna be a mountain top where it constantly snows, will have the 4th fireplace in the game also.  Well, hello there!

Im thinking finishing up this area, getting rid of all the bugs, adding in any item requests people want, then calling it finished for the competition version, oh and cleaning up the editor a bit, cus as you can see (f8 on main screen) its a bit messy at the moment...
480  Community / A Game by Its Cover / Re: [AGBIC] Under the Garden [DEMO/ALPHA UP!] on: July 27, 2010, 08:59:16 PM
The hammer will repair stuff, you need to find it though, it also acts as a improved mining pick as the chainsaw acts as a improved axe, the chainsaw can break open those big logs you occasionally see in the ground also which reveal secret areas, the hammer is within walking distance of the starting area though you will have to pass a boar...  The chainsaw is in the dark caves I think.
