It doesn't feel like a grind to me because you're always exploring new areas. My definition of "grinding" involves repetition; killing the same enemies or going to the same spot to collect a respawning treasure chest etc. In Rogue Legacy you're exploring a new castle every time.
The game also encourages you to collect a lot of gold in a single run. Charon takes the gold you don't use between runs, so for the most expensive items and skills you actually have to explore a sizable portion of the castle without dying.

Rogue Legacy. Wow, this family seems to love sending disabled children to their deaths in a castle swarming with undead. It reminds me of a Penny Arcade comic...Also, have the merchants outside the manor discovered the secret of immortality?

I guess one thing WC3 does better than WC2 in that type of free-for-all scenario is that it incentivizes early skirmishes with hero levels. In a pure free-for-all with no heroes, aggressively attacking other players just seems like a pointless strategy because it weakens you and the person you're attacking, while the players who do not participate in combat continue to grow stronger. In the end, eliminating another player early could just cause you to lose a valuable ally. Adding heroes into the mix means that an aggressive player could have more powerful heroes than a turtling player, which would even the odds in the last battle.

Funny thing about these *craft games is, I barely even played the standard multiplayer modes. I did try a few matches against friends in WC2/WC3/SC back in the day, but the time I spent on that is completely dwarfed by how much I built and played custom maps.
As a consequence of this, I only judge the Warcraft and Starcraft games based on how easy and fun it is to make and play custom maps. In this regard, I feel that Warcraft III is by far the superior game of the series. In WC3 you could create elaborate role-playing games, humorous minigames like Uther Party, countless tower defenses and anything in between. Meanwhile, Warcraft I and II only lets you change the statistics of units, and though the Trigger Editor in Starcraft was pretty amusing for a while, the lack of neutral units coupled with the difficulty of creating heroes using Starcraft triggers meant the custom map scene for SC didn't take off nearly as well as WC3 did. At least, that's my view of it, anyway.

It just made a $5000 jump, so it looks like the fans are pulling out some pretty serious cash to make this succeed.
I have a feeling that this game is going to happen, one way or another. Even if it doesn't reach its funding goal in time, they can still talk to Nintendo about it, since there's been a discussion about releasing it on the Wii U.

digression: if you like dark souls and you actually like challenging games and you actually like indie games and you have heard of la mulana and you haven't played it yet, then shame on you. The nature of the challenge in La-Mulana is very different from the challenge of the Souls games, though. It's a puzzle game, so in most situations there is exactly one solution to the problem you're facing, and it's your job to figure out what that solution is. This makes it more one-dimensional in my eyes and reduces the entertainment value on subsequent playthroughs (once you know the solution to a puzzle it is no longer challenging). One of the things I like the most about Dark Souls is that it feels very fair. When you die, you can see that it was your own fault and that you should try again and do better. When you fail to solve a puzzle in La-Mulana, it's a very unsatisfying experience because you often have no idea what you're doing wrong or even if you should be trying to solve the puzzle in the first place (maybe you lack a certain key item and you don't know about it yet, etc)

Fallsburg: It seems like most of those issues you had are pretty easily fixable? I can understand you may be disappointed by how it is now, but if I'm not mistaken the game is still in the beta phase of development.
And I believe singleton formats in Magic are quite popular. One of the well-known casual Magic formats, EDH/Commander forces you to play with 100 cards in your deck, and all of the non-basic cards have to be unique. So I don't think having a lower card limit is necessarily a bad thing. It's just a problem right now because the game is still in beta so there just aren't a lot of cards scrolls yet.

if this (rumored?) new game is published by sony the chances of it coming to PC are practically nonexistent
Oh, you mean that "Destiny of Spirits" game on the previous page? Sure. Looking at the screenshot, though, it doesn't really look like it has anything to do with Souls; it's just a thing made by the same developer.

I would be very surprised if they stopped releasing Souls games for the PC at this point. They must have noticed that there is a huge audience for the game on the PC, so going back to console exclusives would just be a poor business decision, not to mention that it would burn the goodwill that they got from the community after listening to fans and releasing Dark Souls on the PC.
Personally it doesn't really matter to me if it requires PS Plus to play on the PS4 as long as there is also a PC release. I have no intention of buying a stationary console from any company.

Well, would you look at that. Both Yak and Stumpy have retired from the store and gone immortal. I wonder what my unusual yaks are worth now.

You can always get back to Firelink, as long as you don't enter the painting in Anor Londo (and even if you do, the trip back out from the Painted World is relatively easy and the boss fight is optional).
