When I saw the title I hoped it would be something like this. Really nice concept. Are you planning on having upgradeable ships/weapons?

Probably not.  Didn't really feel like those mechanics fit with what we wanted the game experience to be like.

I am very curious now.  I hope this game's setting goes into a bit more than water.  Not full on wind waker persay, but some rocks or a ship crashed into those rocks would add alot of character.  It's an awesome concept nevertheless.

Absolutely, it's not on the list but I have like icebergs and sheet ice. Both destructible. I have to make them look right though in a non-expensive fashion.

Would be fun to see some kind of video with the splashes, monster swimming and so on.

I'm hoping (if Murphy's law doesn't ruin me) to get a small play test before the holidays. Stay tuned, you'll be able to experience the first iteration soon.

So will it feature any big monster like in the actual whale hunting? It would be interesting though.

Yes. You'll be equipped with a Whaling Harpoon. This does little damage, but it has a rope attacked to it, use to latch on to the Sea Monster and pull you in the case that it's retreating. Kind of like a water skiing mini game tbh.

wow, hunting game. But how the monster swim if it has claw for his fin?

The beast is supposed to be in an evolution stage of a Water based species to a Land based. So the front would be the first to change since the front would be puling itself to land.

Yeah...it kind of sucks when you work hard for two days straight only to have people rate your game based on your screenshots and description.

Reminded me of how I'd often get a mix of different medium scores on audio on my previous ludum dare entries...

...Which had no audio at all.


Enjoyed this entry very much! Nice short and simple. Your art and music is fantastic as well! Awesome work.

Meanwhile: The evolution of a monster.

A super short physics based adventure game that I'll probably give a post competition treatment to make less buggy and include more content.

Whew! It’s over. That was one hell of a jam. Evolution was a challenging theme to condense into a game in such short amount of time.
 
My game Next Generation was definitely an ambitious life simulator game for only myself to do.
 


Lessons learned: If you want to enter the compo, when you take your “break,” don’t take it at 8 pm and play the Game of Thrones board game till 6 am the next day. And don’t bet drinks while you play either. Just don’t do it.
 
But I had so much fun! This idea was actually planned to get scrapped. But with all the research I was doing on the biology of reproduction, hereditary traits, and evolution I couldn’t help but have the urge to create it! I don’t think I’ve every learned so much and it took a game jam to do that.
 
In traditional at home game jam fashion, my diet consisted of only burritos, pizza, hotpockets, and beer.
 
I’ll be updating the game all tonight and after.
