This sounds like the same thing as when people can't see any flaws in their games design and explain away any criticism. You're not making bug free code. No one is and it doesn't even make sense to make bug-free code because it would be so exhaustive and slow to develop and test.
2  Player / General / Re: Why do you like games? on: April 12, 2010, 09:04:45 AM
I play games because sometimes I feel like having something between creating and consuming.
In games you get to do things and decisions and solutions that are meaningless outside the game.

5  Player / Games / Re: Why are video game players so defensive? on: April 07, 2010, 08:55:56 AM
In 30 years when the gamer generation becomes old, it won't be such an issue.
People were already saying that 30 years ago

But the situation is much better than then already. All kinds of people are playing games on their Wii's and iPhones and those just came out a few years ago.

I'm not defensive! Giggle

I dislike guitar hero myself. I don't understand why people feel the need to... pretend about realism in digital media. If you wanna make digital music, make digital music, don't play a digital guitar. A guitar is but an ancient instrument - Software can do so much more.

Aren't games all about pretending though? I don't see why pretending to be a rockstar would be any different from a medieval warrior or whatever. Get a real sword.

My main take-away question here is: Games are more fun than work, even when the tasks being performed are similar. Why does work suck so much?

I don't know if being a gold farmer is a very fun career.

Also: How many games have you played for years 8 hours a day 5 days a week and still enjoy the hell out of?

I thought Polish had a bunch of weirdo letters too, do you have to use a modifier key like Alt to use them when you write Polish? I think it's better when they have their own individual keys.
8  Developer / Business / Re: Making games on the side on: March 10, 2010, 02:08:33 PM
When I started doing Indie games I was fully employed as a games designer in a development studio. My contract said that anything I designed belonged to the company. This is fairly standard and as designer coming up with game ideas and game mechanics ideas was part of my job.

To cover my ass I made sure my contract was changed to specifically allow me to do games on the side. I think this is the only way to be absolutely safe but a lot of employers will be reticent to do this I imagine.

This is important to do and most companies have no problems with it. If they do then you should probably think twice about working there.

I felt like the last 25% of the film was by far the weakest.
But the first 75% was really great suspense, I don't think I've seen anything quite like it in years.

This sounds very interesting. Jason, did you read this post on Lost Garden? This game sounds like what I imagined someone would make based on that  Gentleman

Great idea for a site, I've wanted to find some more interesting indie RPGs but the majority of them seems to be horrible RPG Maker JRPG clones.

My favorite indie rpg so far has been Unreal World. It's a rogue-like survival rpg in the forests of early Finland.
