What language are you using for this? I didn't see anything about a language anywhere and I'm curious!  Smiley

Java for the frontend/client, server is in Haskell.

Still working on this on and off.

a wild (placeholder) title screen appears, with functional menu buttons and editable server address!

busy with implementation details, more to come soon.

One thing that bugs me is that you use 'dwarfs' as the plural of dwarf.  I would use dwarfs for the real world dwarf, but in a fantasy game I think dwarves is better suited.

I like the music on, but I can understand why some people might not for the mobile version.

The sound effect when pressing menu controls, or when you stop reading a sign is too harsh.

Don't make me inspect empty barrels, I just have to close out of inspecting them... ugh.

Still fun to play Smiley

Were you involved in the writing of this paper or are you just linking to it?

Just linking to it because others might find it interesting.

if you have enough of your own technical knowledge, you can use amazon ec2 micro.  I do and pay 50 cents a month for 15GB bandwidth in and 15GB bandwidth out.

Yeah, very much a sandbox.  If you added some levels and had to build things to get the car from A to B it might feel like it has a purpose.  Also, after adding many objects the framerate drops significantly and it gets laggy.  You could do a heuristic for checking framerate and then purging the oldest objects in the physics simulation.

It looks quite fun but I can't play it with a touchpad and WASD doesn't seem to control, is it possible to add that?

I kept pressing space and the level restarted each time? Was a bit confusing at first.

I tried to read the readme but just got a wall of text on one line when I opened it in notepad (which doesn't work for text that isn't \cr \lf I think?) bit hard to read.

Can't play with a touchpad as in it doesn't work, or can't play as in you don't like playing with a touchpad? If it's the latter, you can adjust the mouse tracking speed with the left and right arrows. I usually turn it up when i play on a laptop.

Also, you can right click on the readme, and choose open with -> Wordpad, which should make the text a bit more readable.

Thanks for trying.

Cheers
Charlie

As in I prefer to play with the keyboard rather than mouse control, ever played Raptor Call of the Shadows, keyboard worked quite well in that.

Having to open with wordpad is a chore, I'd rather not read it at all if it just doesn't work with notepad which is the default for .txt on Windows.
