How can he seriously say all that, but also be massively into the whole open source software movement? The iPad seems totally opposite to that philosophy. (and embiggen is an awesome word!)

They've seen the future, and it is shiny.

It's retarded how they changed what you said.

That's kind of how newspapers work.

Seifer tim's is a pretty good one. It's easy to understand. I think when i went through it there were a few discrepancies (like the help function not existing any more) but apart from that it was pretty much up to date. I guess things going out of date is the price we pay for using such a new and constantly evolving engine. It does sound like adam is adding some awesome stuff in these updates.

Scratch and sniff books were awesome. I wish tv could do that.

Woohoo! Just beat veni vidi vici.  Crazy

I'm now totally stuck on Prize for the Reckless. I just don't get what you can possibly do ... any hints beyond the fact that the name is a hint (which i'm drawing a blank on!)?

edit: Just figured it out. Holy fuck.

edit 2: Oh actually that wasn't as hard as i expected. Yay. Just one more to get now!

You may be right in that AAA-titles would decrease in numbers, but their creation could still be financed like how Dwarf Fortress is financed (and how the majority of non-game software is financed).

How exactly? Advertising?

And regarding the indie-scene: With more projects started and more people working on stuff and more knowledge freely available, more games would reach a finished, polished state. And without the feel of "well, those pro-game-makers will do the proper stuff" there would be a bigger focus on polishing the free stuff.

So now not only do the indie devs not get any money they have to put even more time and effort into the game because the mainstream industry has collapsed?

Also, I think there are tens of thousands of people who would be willing to support their favourite game makers. And with more people playing and making games there would be a much bigger support base. Additionally, with more people realizing that their contribution (of money, among other things) really matters, even more would be willing to contribute. (Just look at the support Wikipedia gets.)

Wait, so they are making money from it. I thought the point was they didn't. Are you saying everything should be donation based?

I'm not sure if i'm missing the point you're trying to make, or you're just living a naively optimistic cloud cuckoo land.

That looks amazing. Congratulations on the release!

Just another game taunting me with it's iPhone exlusivity!  Mock Anger

The free spreading of culture comes at the cost of creating the culture you are spreading though. Even if the equivalent of libraries was possible with games, and i haven't heard of a solution that would work, it is still a fine balance between spreading culture and making it impossible for people to create culture and make a living.

Also "Enjoy your parrot and your poop deck." makes me envious of the pirates! If only it was so glamorous.

Just made a paypal account just to buy this. I played the demo on kongregate expecting to come away thinking "hmm, fun but not worth £10" but wow. It's so fantastic.

Only thing i don't like so far is the open world aspect. I seem to spend half my time in the black void trying to find fun bits. I get that when you've got to them once you can teleport back to them to make it easier, i just preferred the demo's system of lining me up with the next section.

Still, fantastic fun, awesome job!

(and the "Do as i do bit?"  Mock Anger didn't even try veni vidi vici. I came to it, I saw it, I ran the hell away)

Yeah this is looking absolutely fantastic.  Tears of Joy

I didn't like the lines across the tops of the background, but it's grown on me.

Any plans on putting this on kongregate? I can't stand newgrounds. The interface is so distracting from the games. Despite the silly chat window i much prefer kongregate.

I juggle.

(i admit i may not be the juggler though!)
339  Player / General / Re: Google Wave on: December 03, 2009, 08:05:42 AM
Yeah, it does. Then i tried it and apparently this is "pirate speak".

"I'm speaking in proper english, thank ye very much.
Actually this isn't very good at all.
What do i have t' say t' make this sound more fantastic?!"

edit: I take that back. I had chosen the wrong pirate. I now have piratify and talk like a pirate skirmishing over my sentences!
