the new box art is really lame.

What are you talking about. This is the biggest reason this game will own.
Exactly.

Interview with world's strongest man Mariusz Pudzianowski - makes MMA debut on Dec. 11

Dec 6th, 2009

by promma.
Mariusz Pudzianowski, the world's strongest man, prepares for his MMA debut.

World's Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski's long-awaited MMA debut is just a week away. Until today the popular Pudzian has been secretive about his training regimen and preparations for the fight against pro boxer Marcin Najman. Today at 10 o'clock in Martial Arts Pavilion at Warsaw's Physical Education Academy, the Strongman had one of his last trainings which was opened for the press. I took the opportunity to talk to Mariusz, here's my interview:

Hi Mariusz. Your MMA debut is only a week away, so I need to ask about your training camp. Are you satisfied with your preparations?

- I can safely say that I have trained really hard for these last nine weeks. Three, four trainings a day, six days a week. At the beginning I also had some strength workouts, but then I left it out. You saw my training, you should say how I'm doing.

I was shocked, especially after you lifted your opponent who was trying to catch you in an armbar and then you slammed him on the mat. Let's get back to the interview. Which MMA techniques you incorporated to your game?

- Every morning I have grappling trainings with elements of wrestling and judo. In the evenings I have 40-minutes-long boxing work-outs. I join both these areas and I really enjoy it. After all the mixture of ****is what MMA is all about.

Your rival Marcin Najman stresses in every interview that he is a boxer and he wants to win using his boxing techniques. Are you planning to avoid his stand-up skills or are we going to see an explosive striking contest?

- If Najman wants to exchange punches with me I wish him luck (laughing). I won't be as slow as an ox and I won't let him beat me up. My mother didn't feed me to be a bum. These hands can hurt, believe me!

KSW Team fighter Maciej Gorski once said that fighters who used to train karate have great ability to land precise strikes and low kicks are their dangerous weapon. You showed glimpses of precision and your physical strength lately when you broke your sparing partner's leg with one kick..!

- I 100% agree with Maciek that karate fighters are really precise with their punches and kicks. As for this unfortunate kick, indeed I hurt his leg, but I didn't kick with my full power. I used about 30% of my ability.

So what is going to happen when you'll use all your power? Will you snap someone's leg?

- (laughing)

At the beginning of your training camp nine weeks ago you weighed 140 kilograms. At the moment you are much lighter. What did you gain with this weight loss?

- I'm at 127 kilograms now and I'm not the same Pudzian as a few weeks ago. I'm quicker and more agile. There are even wrestlers with a few years experience who are not able to do what I can.

Many fighters whom you trained with today believe that you will certainly win without any problems and that Najman is a too easy opponent for you. Do you also underestimate the fighter you are going to face in the ring December 11th?

- I never underestimate my opponents whether it's Strogman competition or anything else. One can't underestimate even the weakest rival. I may not like him as a person, but when I enter the battle I respect anyone who does the same. Pudzian does not underestimate anyone... even Najman.

In none of your earlier interviews did you specify whom do you train with. However, there is one person who constantly brags about your preparations to the media. Don't you think he is using yourself to promote his business?

- To be honest I don't care. I'm not a novice in professional sports and I choose whom I work with. At the moment Mirek provides me with everything I need. It is him who brings fighters to spar with me, it's his role and I don't have time for this. I don't treat anything what he does as using my person to promote his things.

Isn't it irritating that you don't talk to the media much while he's there all the time? I don't believe you...

- We agreed that if he wants to talk about my preparations I don't have anything against it.

Thank you Mariusz for this interview and see you at the KSW ring, December 11th

- Thanks and greetings to all my fans.

Speaking of Will Smith. I'm glad that they made the original book ending for 'I am Legend', its too bad that it didn't test with audiences, but that means that I could end up watching a much better adaptation. Also an 'I am Legend' game would be sweet if it wasn't already Cottage of Doom, heh.
Really?! I wish I saw that ending. I loved it in the comic book. Damn audiences...
364  Player / Games / Re: Are creators good at their own games? on: December 10, 2009, 11:26:23 AM
For most kinds of games, if a game you made is hard for you, it's probably close to impossible to anyone else.
That reminds. People say the creator of Tetris is the best in the world because had he tons of time playing it while making it.
I don't think it always works like this. I think the advantage comes because the creator is usually the only play-tester so MUST have the most time playing the game, but a little practice and anyone can get that good usually. Like, I really doubt that Derek Yu is the best guy on the board at Spelunky. Some pepoe are just good at games.

It's interesting becuase I was reading a thread here and the creator was surprised at how far some of the people got in his game. I think it is just most of the time the creator is good at the type of game that he is creating (thats why he is creating it i guess) but occasionally... he isn't.
Dem fighting words.

If papers full of ideas count then FUCK NO!
366  Player / General / Re: Equipment In Games on: December 10, 2009, 11:08:36 AM
I really hate how equipment is done in most RPGs, where every town you just immediately go to the shop for the next weapon in line.

For those of you who don't follow the Dwarf Fortress devnotes, the way weapons are going is that they are becoming more defined by how they do damage rather than how much.  For instance, I believe weapons are now getting numerical descriptions in terms of physical attributes, i.e. a hammer has surface area 40 while a spear has surface area 2.  They will no longer smash or pierce because they have the [smashing] or [piercing] flag but because that's how their "physicality" denotes they should act.  I think they have weight, too, and probably some other things I'm forgetting (length?).

Anyway that coupled with the damage system, where there are no explicit hitpoints, but rather each creature has his own limbs, organs, blood, nervous tissue, etc, really affects how different equipment will affect the game.  For instance, spears will work better against giant naked creatures with fleshy bodies while hammer will work better against giant Iron Men, or people wearing heavy armor.

And I think that's awesome.
Also, the damage system itself is going get a lot more intricate in the next version. As far as I read, dwarves now have fully-simulated bodies, including internal organs, hair and nails, which should make for some nasty ASCII gore.  Evil
Hair? Uhoh....

Oldboy. I realize there probably will be a licensed game for the Will Smith remake, but I just want a decent brawler/investigative experience, like Condemned without the silliness.
Cheesy Will Smith remake? I'm a fan but he's not going to get any new fans with all of these remakes.

Will Smith: Incest?! Ah hell no!  Cheesy

I am in rural NZ atm, internet is boarderline dialup here so O well.  Yea man Fedor is a beast, its good to see people who watch MMA outside the UFC also, the dude is the best fighter on the planet atm, real life Zangief.
Heh heh Zangief. And I've only been a MMA fan for a year but I'm trying to watch other organizations besides UFC hence why I watched my first Dream fight yesterday.
I watch MMA on Youtube when i'm trying to avoid work Smiley This Marius Zaromskis guy has some quick legs but he really should stop jumping around like that, a more skilled fighter could take advantage of that (see Fedor vs Arlovski, Arlovski got carried away and started jumping -> BAM). And this backlip jump is the most ridiculous stunt i've ever seen.

Anyway, i hope someday we'll be able to see a Fedor vs Brock Lesnar fight. That'd be, you know, BBQ and all...
Well there's really not that many knock out artist at Welterweight so expect Zaromskis to do a lot more jumping around.

Sheep Man, I will destroy you!  YAAAAY!

Some things should *never* change.  Classic Megaman is one of 'em.  Don't mess with a winning formula.
Damn straight.

That does sound aesome.

I also love how many games have the disguise-system; i.e. stealing an enemy's outfit like in Chrono Cross, FF6, Cave Story, Mother 3 etc. and pretending to be one of them.

It's not really equipment, but your character is equipped with it. This spams other kinds of examples like the "barrel-outfit" Link uses in WW to disguise himself with the sceneary.

Like I said, things that change the gameplay mechanics.
Don't forget about Metal Gear Solid.

And cool Mega Man 10 avatar, by the way.

Uh, what?
Oh sorry, I just youtubed that game and had to say something.
374  Player / General / Re: Equipment In Games on: December 09, 2009, 02:52:45 PM
I like things that change gameplays:

Iron boots in zelda have several uses: no wind can blow you, you weight more, you are attracted to magnet fields

I also like things that completely make a difference in a battle, this is common in RPGs and mainly in disgaea:

a character lvl 1 wearing a certain sword can kill a lvl 9999 character because of all the stats gain
Things like that is what I really like. In too many action RPGs (or whatever) you just get a stat boost and nothing else.

Hellz yes MMA is the awesome, we don't get it here though so I have to resort to watching Fedor WTFBBQPWN people on youtube.
It's sad that you don't get MMA where you are. It was extremely entertaining to see Fedor WTFBBQPWN Brett Rogers live for the first time thanks to CBS.
376  Player / General / Re: Equipment In Games on: December 09, 2009, 02:48:30 PM
In my current project the main character has this huge swiss army knife that holds inside all his weapons and items. I like the idea myself, don't know how ridiculous it will seem to everyone else Droop Dunno if it's done before though, I'd like to know if someone has seen it somewhere Who, Me?

Also, it's fun how most of the Zelda games have the same items <3 Seriously though, I'd like to see them make one without any of the classics.
Sounds interesting.
Assuming you're referring to RPG-style equipment, not the Zelda/Metroid kind:

One thing I dislike is when equipment is the only factor that decides how "good" you are in a game. I.e. if you have good equipment, the game is a piece of cake no matter how well you play (I'm a big Diablo fan though, call me a hypocrite  Wink).

Other than that, I see nothing wrong with equipment in games per se. It usually adds at least a bit of depth without overcomplicating the game. If it's handled well though, it can add a whole new level of gameplay. For instance, in Demon's Souls, choosing the right equipment for the right situation is almost a must.
I meant in all kinds of games. That's why I was unspecific.

And don't you have to spend tons of hours getting epuipment strong enough to stroll through a game? I say that's an unfair tradeoff.

Discuss what you like, don't like and would love to see when it comes to equipment in video games.
