Indie butt  Beer!

I'm sorry but the real men do it like this:

I'm still playing. Haven't completed the final level yet. Love the balance of things, and the different strategies it allows. I'd just heavy weapon zone rush, or play it slowly with well-placed siege things, after which I'd teleport those away.

Very nice! Some sense of completion would actually add a lot to the game: something indicating that you won a mission. And also since there aren't a lot of marines, you could have named them, and made the player care for them.

But very nice, a good strategy game for a change.

Dear Jwaap,

You are younger than me (I think) and more talented. Stop doing that.

Love,
Kevin

First of all, that's not true.
Second: Wait a few years and I'll be older then you!

376  Developer / Design / Re: Individuality in Strategy Games on: January 27, 2010, 09:27:15 AM
I had this idea yesterday, while watching the venture brothers, of numbering your troops. Like henchmen, a bit. YOu'll get #1 2 3 4 5 etc.

Battles keep going, in the end, if #5 is still alive, you are going to love #5.

Red Alert does this a bit with the leveling of rts units (I'm talking about a different kind of games a bit, yeah), but does not make them individuals. I think this shallow but effective way might achieve this.

Bah.... I'm sure by now, it's rude to post more Tobe stuff, but I figured this idea might be useful for other developers too, so why not.

I did a digital instruction menu for the game. It can be found here
http://tobesadventure.squarespace.com/gallery/instruction-manual/ or
http://tobesadventure.squarespace.com/download/digital-instruction-manual/

Since 80% of the replies goes "aww, if only I own a 360", I decided to do this so players who don't get to play it, at least get to see what it's about. Same for myself, I often check on some NDS games, I wish I can play, but I don't have a NDS, so I end up reading the instruction manual Smiley

Also I just wrote an essay about how games lacked innovation, and game designers shouldn't play games because they are influenced by them anyway. So hereby I declare I will not play anymore games for the rest of my life.
