there's no way that wouldn't be frustrating. imo random chance should always be avoided as much as possible and with something as big as, well, winning... well it would suck if you worked really hard but got unlucky and had to start over for no reason.

the old sonic games also managed something like this, with challenging platforming rewarding you with "speed" rather than just the satisfaction of pulling shit off. i dont really know what this would qualify as, other than some really interesting payoff method.

well, for one thing, despite knytt lacking challenge it still did new and interesting things. it made you explore and gave you new abilities which aren't in every other game ever to do it, like the umbrella, the wallclimbing, and the hologram thingy. most art games are either barebones platforming or the cool and exciting metroidvania abilities you get are "jump higher", "shoot better" and "double jump"

I've heard that Batman: The Brave and the Bold is awesome, unanimously. Don't know how that's controversial.

So this would be: I think Batman: The Brave and the Bold is unbearably cheesy and the  worst Batman cartoon I've seen so far. It's not funny enough to be a parody and impossible to take seriously.
i know its your opinion and stuff, but it honestly seems like you are looking at the show the wrong way. something doesn't have to be SUPER GRIMDARK or a laugh-a-minute, it just a lighthearted superhero show that pays homage to adam west batman, delves ridiculously deep into dc lore, and can go all sorts of places that no other superhero shows have been able to because of its tone.

David Tennant is marrying is own clone. True story.

his clone who is his fictional daughter and is the irl fifth doctor's daughter

that is like triple incest what the hell

edit: also, matt smith is still fairly controversial because people are still butthurt over tennant leaving. also, while most of smith's season was good, not great, the van gogh episodes and the christmas carol really stood out as wonderful episodes.

batman: brave and the bold is one of my favourite shows on tv. there is so much nerdlove and fun continuity stuff, its like justice league unlimited but all entirely tongue in cheek.

also, ecclestone was definitely a better actor than tennant, but not necessarily a better doctor. matt smith is the best though, he can balance the drama and the quirky comedy way better than either of the other new doctors, plus he actually seems like an alien.

Batman Begins was ok, but entirely missed the point of Batman.
this so much

"i wont kill you but i dont have to save you" is the worst line in batman history, full stop

also, adam west batman is on par with the dark knight in entertainment value
328  Developer / Design / Re: Accessibility on: January 09, 2011, 08:02:23 AM
i agree that some games are meant to be accessible and others meant to be "gamer's games"
if you wanted someone to get into reading fantasy, you will give them a simple, attractive novel like one of the narnia books, not the simarillion. this doesn't mean complex, difficult books are bad, it just means you have to be at a certain reading level in order to appreciate them. games like viewtiful joe and tvc started out feeling oppressive and complex, but as i persevered and mastered the necessary mechanics they became unrivaled experiences and some of my favourite games ever.

every anime ever, is unwatchable garbage

every zelda game is incredibly boring/stupid

all of nintendo's consoles and games post-snes are complete disappointments

i know this is just an opinion thread and i dont want to turn this into an argument shitfest or anything, but these three honestly sound extremely uninformed (especially the anime one) and like you are just trying to be cool and edgy. seriously, condemning an entire genre/media/culture/whatever of animation just doesn't even make sense, thats like condemning using paint because its not as good as other art methods. i'm seriously not trying to start a bit argument, i just kind of want to hear some backing up for a few of these.

most people who think pokemon got worse probably haven't played a pokemon game since r/s/e (which was admittedly the low point in the series)

I believe New Super Mario Bros Wii has similar effects.

Either that or the police will find all your family on a large pool of their own blood with several stab wounds, apparently perpetrated by everyone at the same time.

haha, i played nsmb wii with a friend once

it ended badly

love and monsters had a fun premise but once the villain came in things got weird as fuck and the ending was just nonsensical awkward squick

ooh, right. one more.

people who say megaman is a zombie franchise are idiots. yes it has been milked like crazy, but it has been milked damn well. games like the zero, star force, and zx series are proof of that. sure, the 8-bit games are a bit exploitative, but the zx games actually tried new things with the franchise and moved the story forward and, imo, zx3 is probably the most necessary sequel in gaming atm.

Metroid: Fusion has a great atmosphere.

anyone who says otherwise is fucking insane. say what you want about the linearity compared to super metroid, the art, sound, and design are way better than any other metroid game and sa-x is one of the only game monsters which has legitimately scared the hell out of me.
335  Developer / Design / Re: Discovery and player self sabotage on: January 07, 2011, 04:37:50 PM
well, actually there might be something you could do about it. the selection of faq sites for indie games is fairly limited, so you could just contact some of the bigger ones and ask them personally not to have any stuff on your game.
336  Developer / Design / Re: Your MMORPG on: January 07, 2011, 04:35:39 PM
as people have said, no grinding. it can work in a traditional rpg but in competition it just sucks out all the fun and skill. also, a ton of customization but without necessarily having any "advantages" to it. you could make your character a speedster but your defense might need to take a hit for it. some weapons might be harder to block but a bit slower. this way there would still be content and skills/spells to unlock but it wouldn't be a matter of how good your armour or whatever is, its just about how well suited to your items you are.

well, the nineties were a hell of a lot better than the periods before, mostly because of the huge boosts in the animation and the sheer mass of shows coming out. with the 80s people think back fondly on shows like transformers g1 and thundercats despite the actual shows being poorly written crap. with the 90s, despite a lot of terrible shows, when you think of the great ones like animaniacs, freakazoid, pinky and the brain, the early DCU, spider-man, ren and stimpy, and sonic satam, you can actually look back on them and they are still pretty damn great.
338  Player / General / Re: Controversial/unpopular opinions on media on: January 06, 2011, 09:40:20 PM
almost all cartoons from the 60s-80s are total shit. there was one or two decent hanna barbera shows and ninja turtles always kick ass, but g1 transformers, thundercats, classic scooby doo, etc... are all slow, poorly animated, and generally shoddy shows that everyone clings to because of nostalgia. honestly, i would say tons more good or great shows have come out of the last decade, the so called "dark age" of animation than that period.
