Sweet Jesus I'm not sure how much more I can take of this.

Surprise, surprise!  You can now get the games on OnLive.  Weird coincidence, seeing as the $5,000 advertisement donation for OnLive was given before it was announced as a service for getting the games.
844  Player / Games / Re: Is there interest in non-freeware Japanese Shmups? on: December 23, 2010, 01:06:28 PM
If you manage to convince me that a new indie shmup is a particularly fantastic game, maybe. Otherwise, I'd just be reading.

Hey, Hydorah popped in this year.  You never know when indie shmups with some actual level design will come about.
845  Player / Games / Daniel Remar to open source Iji, Hero Core, etc on: December 23, 2010, 11:22:48 AM
Coming from his most recent blog post on the 20th:

Quote
First off, the Garden Gnome Carnage game being sold on iPhone was not made by me (Remar Games) nor Ludosity (the place where I work) - for more info, read reallyjoel's take on it here. Secondly, the freeware game I'm working on now stars Princess Pitch of dubious Garden Gnome Carnage fame! Not content with supporting roles, she sets out on a quest of a rather silly amount of explosions. The other, bigger game I'm working on will wait until this one's done. And finally, early next year I'll upload the source codes to my games and do the remaining Hero Core speedruns. See you in 2011!

In addition to his next "Big game" and the Princess Pitch game, I'm pretty damn excited about this news.  I've always wondered how some of the tech behind Iji worked, and this is going to awesome for some advanced GM users to learn some new tricks.
846  Player / Games / Re: what are the top 10 indie games of 2010? on: December 22, 2010, 11:27:16 PM
10. Revenge of the Titans
9. Hero Core
8. Limbo
7. Super Meat Boy
5. Distorted Travesty
4. Minecraft
3. Amnesia - The Dark Descent
2. depict1
1. VVVVVV

These are all in no particular order, by the way.  Despite being an art game at its core, I still feel Limbo was among one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had this year, despite all the hype and praise being poured into it.

Distorted Travesty sort of popped out of nowhere and surprised me some time last week.  Despite some obvious lack in originality in terms of story and characters, the gameplay at its core is awesome, and really hearkens back to some Megaman-style stuff, albeit some obvious differences.

But yeah, this year really produced some awesome new stuff, and I'm happy to be in the independent gaming loop to experience it all.

The Behemoth really needs to get better at meeting those deadlines.  2010's almost over, and there hasn't even been a single big game update.

This is actually really, really awesome.  I think with more cover locations, and a less ridiculous-looking head sensor, this could be a day-one purchase from me.

Crimax Games' Dex?  Respect.  (Or was it Helix?  Either way Dim was awesome and I was a Game Maker kid back in the day and weren't we all and aww sheee)
Nope.  This is the Dex that helped create The Spriter's Resource.

It does mean that Newgrounds will likely be flooded with subpar [click]crap
As if it would make any difference to the portal.

Can't we all just get along?  Concerned
It's all a part of the plan to unleash mass chaos upon the general population.

Monaco's coming.  That should tide you over for a little.
856  Player / Games / Re: Why are there so few top-down 2D indie games? on: November 19, 2010, 07:15:50 PM
I quit immediately as soon as that chick started talking.

Yeah, the female voicework in it sucks especially.  Doesn't effect my perception of the game too bad, though.  Just muted it during dialogue scenes.

As a user of MMF2 and TGF2 NG Edition, I do accept that there are a fair bit of limitations.  I tend to not be too ambition with my games, though.  MMF2 is great for the small, easy-to-manage games that aren't going to take a billion hours of slaving over to come to fruition.

My view on this: I think it's great that Clickteam's making the realm of game making accessible to all of the artists/designers who weren't aware of it earlier.  The guys who have great ideas, but couldn't build up the competence to learn a language.  In a way, it's a stepping stone for those folks into the world of game development.  If the feel that the program is good enough to be a tool they'll use for a long time, than good for them.  But if they work it to its limits, and realize the limitations of the program, they might be curious enough to explore other, more powerful game creation software/programming languages.  This offer could be a useful crutch for many people like this to get into the world of game development, and I'm all for that.

Neverending Light actually executed the concept of a visually appealing top-down game very well, IMO.  The mix of the dynamic lighting with the 3-D character models really separated it from other games of the genre.  Sadly, the gameplay wasn't as satisfying as I had hoped, but it was an incredibly cinematic experience, and that's definitely something to say about a top-down game.
859  Player / Games / Re: PC Indie Game Recommendations! on: November 19, 2010, 06:32:28 PM
Technically, it's freeware now, but I'd highly recommend getting "The Spirit Engine 2".  It's essentially a commercial deal gone free.

Hey guys, heard this independent games thing was pretty cool.  So I joined.  And that's about it.
