I decided against arch-linux pretty much only because it was completely text based (not that there's anything wrong with text based OSes, its just not exactly what I would call n00b friendly...
There's Manjaro which is a derivative of Arch complete with hardware detection and GUI everything. Arch wasn't always a completely manual install, though there was always configuring involved. It was fun when I had a bunch of free time, but I just need my machines to do work now. I tossed Manjaro on it and haven't worried about anything like that at all.
