Psychonauts was more a "story game" as far as I'm concerned, the actual platforming part of it wasn't all that special.
Totally agree.
The Banjo games and DK64 etc are all good games too. What I meant was no one really managed to improve upon the template set by Mario 64. The genre didn't evolve and branch out enough.
I never played
DK64, and
Tooie was such a mind-numbing "collect all the things" quest that I only played because of the original's general awesomeness. Both
Banjo's felt like a step back from
Mario 64. I did feel, however, that
Mario 64 DS surpassed the original, but not by much. Nor was it innovate either.
Hype the Time Quest was a really good addition to 3D platformers.
Jazz Jackrabbit 3D (the leaked alpha) was pretty awful. The
God of War games were ultra-linear. The
Crash Bandicoot series (the first three) were designed pretty damn wellandI'mstartingtoramble.
