Would it be less time consuming to just pixel a template for each animation? You'd get the same results essentially right? If it's isometric you'd just need 4 directions/2 because you can flip each one horizontally.

This marks a new day in my pathetic knowledge of art, utilizing layer modes. Brick Wall has grain extract applied on a couple of gradients.

I'm not a fan of that grey block on top, but that gradient on the bricks actually looks pretty cool.

Are animated pieces allowed?

Yeah that would be sweet. It does look like a low poly model at the height of distortion.

This was a piece of concept art I was working on that didn't turn out to well so I made this out of it.

Oh okay gotcha. In that case I like the first one better. The only thing that looks kind of weird is the smoke, but what you said in the OP(

probably i'll end up with something very bubbly with lots of instances of smaller smoke puffs
) will probably do the trick pretty well.

My uncles used to make those with 2 liter soda bottles for the 4th of July. So stinkin' loud.

@Hawt Koffee - Nice man. I like the scratchy brush or whatever it is you used.

Looks great Ishi. I love the fog and the house silhouette. I've been trying to practice environments also and drew a little desert scene with huge green beans jutting out of the ground.

Thanks for trying it out man  Smiley. It's helpful to see it on another piece. Per your suggestion I made the darkest brown a bit lighter to up the contrast. I also tweaked the dark purple so it ramps better to the blue. Here's the updated palette and something I'm working on with it

I haven't used all the colors yet.

Look at the highlight on the eye for an idea of how the yellow can be used in place of pure white. I like  how warm it is.

Yeah I agree with you on the two darkest. I wonder if I could trade the more brown one out for a light blue. Does the green/teal cut it as a blue highlight?

Working on something and tried my hand at making my own 16 color palette. I'm pretty happy with it. The dude and eye were just tests.

Feel free to use/tweak/critique.

My coworker got in a motorcycle accident on his way to work this morning. He's going to live but he's pretty banged up and will be gone from work for awhile. Hugs/prayers for him and his family please. He's an awesome dude.
