It's new to me, I just found it. :|

@JWK5 ~ You're right, it does make more sense that way.
3562  Player / Games / Nintendo's Controversial Words Towards "Garage Developers" on: March 18, 2011, 11:42:57 AM
http://www.develop-online.net/news/37315/Nintendo-We-dont-want-garage-developers

In that article, it is said that Nintendo wants to do business with full time indie developers, but not 'garage developers', defined as hobbyists or developers who need to hold down another job. This is supposedly because the quality of these garage developer's games are lower, more disposable titles.

What do you guys think of this?

I for one am somewhat insulted. I don't plan on working with Nintendo anytime soon (Unrelated to this), but have they even began to look at some of the Wii's shovelware titles?
3563  Player / General / Re: Why are ROMs bad? on: March 18, 2011, 11:05:15 AM
People pirating indie games is a shame, people pirating the crap that AAA companies shovel out is no skin off my nose.

I'm curious why you draw that distinction. Is it because indie games cost less on average, so piracy seems pettier? Or do you assume AAA games will still generally sell pretty well regardless of piracy, and by that turn, AAA developers' jobs are more stable, whereas piracy could be the difference between whether or not a full-time indie developer can pay the bills? Or is it that you just don't like most AAA games, so you don't empathize with those developers when their games get pirated?

I think it'd be more because indie developers don't generally have 15 for-sale titles flying off the shelves. Unless you're Notch.

I'm also clean shaven. Might grow a goatee, though I'm not really sure how that'll look on me Shrug

I think that'll look okay.

3566  Developer / Workshop / Re: Yet another "Character Concept Feedback" thread? on: March 18, 2011, 08:21:55 AM
They look decent so far, but most of the characters have no personality. For instance, the character on the last row, second from the right, what are her abilities? What is she like? I feel the you should be able to tell that by looking at them.

Maybe a few more detailed pictures would help some of the artists around here do a sketch.

(BTW, that is a really badass picture, how you just sneaked yourself in there, I can picture you saying, "Read it and weep, mothaf***as.")

Last night, I fixed some really nasty bugs. The shooting only worked every once in a while, and the reloading didn't work at all. All good now.

I'm clean shaven. Looking into growing a handlebar moustache.

What hair do you have, if any?

Also: If anyone wants to grow a handlebar moustache with me, please say so.

Haha, yeah.
... Wait why were you looking at rule 34 of Link? Huh?

I came across it.

Oh my days, that sounds even worse... Facepalm

Stumbled upon*?

Has anyone ever met someone that worked at a game company that was cool with you pirating that game? Working at a game company during crunch is hell. Seeing it get pirated right after that is a smack in the sleep deprived, malnutritioned game dev's face. Year's after the devastation of completing said game, perhaps they won't care as much?

Orite, I also told my friend this.
3571  Player / General / Re: Why are ROMs bad? on: March 17, 2011, 06:38:00 PM
as an analogy, let's say your friend gave you a mug on the condition that you don't use it to drink orange juice. he clearly said that you could use the mug for anything you want, except for drinking orange juice. an absurd request? yes. but it would still be unethical to *agree* to not use the mug for orange juice, take the mug, and then use it for orange juice.

Why the hell would someone drink orange juice out of a coffee cup?

Also, something weird: I clicked quote, and noticed the quote had more text than your post.
3572  Player / General / Re: Why are ROMs bad? on: March 17, 2011, 05:16:46 PM
Surprised at the kinds of feedback I got. Usually when someone mentions a rom on this forum, people freak out.
3573  Player / General / Why are ROMs bad? on: March 17, 2011, 04:59:46 PM
So, my friend recently told me he was using a ROM to play Ocarina of Time. I was like, "Dude, fyou, that's absolutely terrible.". He said, "why?". My mouth was empty. I couldn't think why they were bad, but I knew they were! The only things I could come up with are...

-They deserve credit for their work.
-The game is still being sold on the Wii's VC
-The company still makes games
-It's stealing.

He pulled the, "It's not pirating if I paid for it", and I couldn't think of anything. Why is the use of ROMs bad?

I had a dream about Paul Eres. We were walking down the street talking about games and why I can't finish one. Then I got hit by a car.

The texture didn't work quite right, so here's just the naked model.

It's a hammer!

Made this image.

Feel free to use... Though I can't think of anything to use it for other than reference.

Blues and purples don't have to be dreary if you use them in the right way; calmness can be achieved through other colors. Pastels might be what you're looking for, something with light value but low saturation.

The game you're describing sounds like a lot of fun, let me know how it turns out! :3

I thought pastels would work too, but pastels don't work with a darker atmosphere that well. I've whipped up an image.

That shows pastel colors at HSV 0, 240, 210 to HSV 225, 240, 210, +15 hue values every square across, with a black rectangle blended over it at alpha values of 0 to 255, adding 16 every square down. After doing it, it doesn't look THAT bad, but I would need to have some lighter colors. The game takes place at night, should've mentioned that.
3579  Player / General / Re: How old are you? on: March 17, 2011, 10:45:35 AM
I'd love to attend a TigJAM, but I'm afraid I'll be the youngest there.
3580  Player / General / Re: Pokemon Black and White on: March 17, 2011, 09:55:27 AM
You must have never played Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire if you think this game is the easiest one.

In Ruby, you could catch like four level 3 zigzagoons with Pickup and have them find dozens of Nuggets and Rare Candy on the ground before you even reached the first Gym Leader.

Actually, I never did play that game. My older brother hogged it!
