There was no option for "one-nighters only" so I picked forever_alone.jpg, which doesn't sound too different :/

Same boat, man.

Shit, I should have included online relationships for people like Paul Eres.
hahahaha

there is Literally no such thing as a female, nor has there been at any point

Sorry If I misunderstood Smiley
It look like you made a point about Caruso's point that men made more breakthrough.

I mean, maybe this is true in certain fields. Certainly, in game design, it seems like, up until this point, most of the major breakthroughs have been made by men.

That said, to underestimate a woman because of that? It seems stupid. Some guys seem to treat, say, Albert Einstein being a genius, as some kind of victory for them, just because they share gender. Einstein was an exception by definition. The fact that you and he both have dicks is pretty meaningless.

Personally, I think the guys that root for men based on the actions of men better than them are just reinforcing their own mediocrity. The greats stand on their own, they're not part of the male or female "team".

My advice for anyone who feels like they're in a minority or is being underestimated: treat it as a challenge. It's more reward for you when you eventually end up on top. Be the only girl in a male-dominated field/community and kick ass. You will get respect from the people whose respect matters.

girls do not exist

Ugh seeing all these Lib Dems lose their council seats instead of Conservatives is disappointing. I guess whoever the media 'bad guy' is loses out.

the lib dems deserve to lose seats but it is very baffling that the conservative vote is holding up. i guess it's fortunate that it's only been a year and people don't understand just how much the state is being dismantled.

oh i just found out about sprite_xoffset. thanks superb joe, you've been a great help.
1101  Developer / Technical / Re: The GML Questions Thread on: May 02, 2011, 01:11:42 PM
you can define it manually in code

e.g. in the step event

if (image_index == 0)
 mask_index = mask_10x20 [where mask_10x20 is a blank 10x20 square -- you need to make an image for this]
if (image_index == 1)
 mask_index = mask_20x20 [where mask_20x20 is a blank 20x20 square, also a separate image]

checking the collision point relative to an object's x and y values works based on their sprite's origin points and not their masks. is there a way to check relative to the mask?

well maybe i'm missing something but making this frame and this frame of an animation have a different hitbox seems pretty useful to me?

who's better spinoza or super joe

just joking

i don't know who that is but i feel confident in saying that i am better by any possible measure or criteria
1104  Developer / Technical / Re: The GML Questions Thread on: May 02, 2011, 02:46:07 AM
this isn't really a gml question but it's about game maker:

what's the deal with the separate collision masks option? it only works if you use the automatic setting because if you manually adjust it it uses those settings for every single subimage. am i stupid or is the computer stupid? thanks.

that looks almost exactly the same to me, although obviously i understand it has control implications. i think maybe it just needs a transitional animation so he's not launching straight into that really fast run cycle? i don't know, don't listen to me i'm bad at programming and animating.

i use the gimp to make sprites and animations and i would recommend that you use anything other than the gimp

Rogue-like platformer, which will be used for a town system/explore mode

Travel-mode/battle-mode will consist of a Side-scrolling shmup.

that's cool but the sideways tower makes me think of a tiny peen

Something I pooped for a friend's project

I love the sense of.. I dunno, weight?, that this thing has.
I also love you, Joe.

thanks, i love joe too.

also im acutely aware of the amount of door kicking in re4 and 5, but 5 is a better game.

Why does he fall after kicking? Ain't he man enough to keep his balance?

sometimes, even at our very joe-est, we find ourselves capable of performing feats beyond our abilities.
