Game Maker does have functionality for predefined paths with smooth curves built in, although I've never used it. But I think Paul Eres used that for Immortal Defense, so you could probably ask him about it. It seems like it might exactly what you need.

Looking forward to seeing this project develop!

Also, I don't feel like co-op is somehow less satisfying. If anything, it's more satisfying. Co-op is less satisfying because it turns the game into a casual button-masher. That's not to say it isn't fun though. It just takes away the challenge, and the satisfaction of overcoming that challenge.

This game's so good... when I'm not playing it, I want to read about it. It's so tempting, but I'm starting to spoil myself a little bit so I have to refrain.
I think DS has my favorite fantasy world ever. I love all the names.
Dude, I know exactly what you mean. Once you've finished the game, definitely check out EpicNameBro's lore video series. He's pretty much the grandfather of the Dark Souls community and his lore series is amazing. It really adds a new dimension to the game and makes you realize how much thought Fromsoft put into everything. One of my favourite details is the Berserk homages, like the Red Eye Orb and the design of the greatsword. http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?p=251new dsfix, you can now toggle the fps unlock if you encounter any bugs. I had trouble rolling to the nest on top of firelink to get back to undead prison thing. it's doable but being able to toggle the fps will make it a lot easier. OH shit, I was having trouble with that too but I didn't realize it was because of the DSFix. I thought I was just forgot how to execute the roll properly.

Yeah, and if you wear the Covetous Gold Serpent ring while going through they drop often enough that you can take your time without worrying about it. The only cursed weapon that is half-decent is the cursed version of Artorias' greatsword, but you need to be using a strength oriented build to use it.

You need to use a transient curse to hit the ghosts in New Londo, or use a cursed weapon.
I also recommend doing the Depths before Blighttown if it's your first character, since the enemy hp is balanced that way. It's also good to get the large ember there.

Just started a new Cleric character. I'm gonna try to beat the catacombs and blighttown before leveling up/beating Capra demon/beating the gargoyles.

The best place for farming Large Titanite Shards is Oolacile Township.
The best place for farming Green Titanite Shards is the slugs in Blighttown near the entrance to the Great Hollow. This is also the second best place for farming Large Titanite Shards if you don't have access to Oolacile Township.
The best place for farming Titanite Chunks and Titanite Slabs is the Darkwraiths in New Londo, after you have opened the flood gates.

Shadow of the Colossus I consider this to be one of the best pieces of art ever created by humans (in my own taste). It's the game that inspired me to get into game development.
Dark Souls This game gets everything right. It's also the best example I've seen of a game that tells it's narrative in a way that works for a game. It perfectly embodies the quote "the medium is the message." If you were to tell the story of Dark Souls as a book or movie, it would be boring, but because it is carefully hidden and told in a cryptic way, it becomes a game in itself to learn the story.
Mount and Blade: Warband The best of example of real world combat I've ever seen in a videogame, and the game I've spent the most time playing (besides WoW when I was a teen). The beauty of it is that the things you learn while getting good at the game are the same principles that apply to combat in real life, such as feints, distance control, reading your opponent, and other things like that. It has that Go-like timeless quality that as you get really good at it, you feel like you start to better understand the universe.
Braid I think this is the best example of minimalist game design I've ever seen. Whether or not I find it fun, it's probably the game I've studied and learned from the most.
Counter-Strike: Source I never actually played the original CS, so this was my introduction. Like I said about Mount and Blade, this game has a timeless purity and is inherently fun.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Mostly for sentimental reasons, but I think it's the only good Zelda game released in the past 10 years. The graphics are still fresh and haven't aged a day.
Haven & Hearth I totally agree with everything VDZ said about this game. I've had some of the most magical experiences playing this, especially running from Russian marauders with my neighbours. It's a shame they put absolutely no effort into making the interface accessible, it could have been a huge phenomenon. We'll see if they correct this with Salem though.
Cave Story A relatively simple game, but I think that it's another example of perfect design. I've learned a lot from studying how it's put together.
Minecraft
Hammerfight
Woops, for some reason I thought this thread was for games of the past 10 years.
