I hate choosing different levels/paths, so I'm missing out on some games that are meant to be great (Megaman series, Shatterhand, Castlevania 3, and so on). Not quite sure why I don't like choosing them, but maybe it's because: I don't want to have to figure out which is the optimal order, not as much suprise/interest in seeing what the next level is, doesn't feel like the designers put much thought into the flow of the game or the "difficulty curves".
I don't have a problem playing a well designed and beautiful level more than once. I like when there is a variety of tactics that can be used during the levels though.

I hope they drop the whole "wii" thing.
They're making it compatible with Wii games and accessory stuff, so they'll probably stick with the Wii in the name. Just like how they started with the DS, they can't stop having DS in the handhelds now!

I think you mean 忍者龍剣伝III 黄泉の方舟 and 極魔界村.
I can't read that, I meant Gokumakaimura Kai, which doesn't have an english version.

I think it would be cool if there could be a screenshot/thumbnail beside each game here, rather than just go by a game's name. But the forum software probably wouldn't support it I guess.

I hope the "tunnel man" isn't this one! I didn't like having to skip levels and pay him all the time. It seems to be a compromise on the "permanent death" system, where you have to grind for gold in order to unlock the checkpoint system.

Maybe even closer than a lot of table-top RPGs, which also direct you through linear storylines.
I haven't played an RPG before, but I thought that would depend on how good the Gamemaster would be?

We're a long way from quarters in arcade machines, and we don't have a reason to waste players' time by making them retread the same ground again and again.
I don't find it a waste of time at all, these games are thrilling and intense! I find dying and replaying well designed challenging and gorgeous levels fun. Whereas with games like Skyrim, I had the problems that DavidCaruso described earlier, the save system was one of the main reasons the game was ruined for me. I thought I'd try using Skyrim's autosave/checkpoint thing, but once you die when you're far into a dungeon it remembers everything you've killed so you have run through empty dead halls all the time! It just feels like a scenery tour, which is nice for a while but the aesthetic appeal wears off. So it seems the best thing to do in Skyrim is save every second, which is tedious, and feels like I may as well just enable God mode.
