The new level art looks pretty good so far. I might have to get a 3DS at some point.

Progress report! We're now entirely turn-based. I'm adding in more information for bother players (on the health/level of their opponents) and seriously considering adding multi-hero support. I'm also adding skills in. THere will be at least one release before the VERSUS deadline but the game won't be truly 'finished' until after then so I'll migrate it to its own thread somewhere else. Do eet!

I'm not sure I'll be attending GDC itself this year, but I'll definitely try to make it up to meet up with you folks and hang out, since I live relatively close to SF.

It looks like a hand. I can't shake the feeling that it should be attached to a weird jaggy-looking arm-bone thing. Like a giant fossil with earth hanging on to it in clumps.
Very intriguing! Is there more to it?

Most modern MMO's are the way they are because familiar UI and starting experiences allow players to jump right in without having to relearn how to play. Content-wise, you start out with things players are familiar with, and then move them on to the unique stuff that requires a little more adjustment to. You ease the player into the world, and allow them to experience things bit by bit. Like Nix said, the game's having a beta event this weekend, you could do better than try it out for free and form your own opinion first-hand. As for 'making a quick buck', MMOs are not the way to go

Looks very promising, I didn't know that (most) developers threw their development notes after used. That's really sad. Some actually save them, which is why I like the site, because it encourages them to dig 'em up before they do eventually get lost or tossed in a move or something! I never throw any of my notes away. I have quite the stack of notebooks lying on the floor of the office. I keep meaning to organise them, but whenever I do I just keep coming up with more stuff

Many commenters on other sites seem to misunderstand a particular point pertaining to this issue, so I will preemptively emphasize it here: while Lugaru's code is open source, Lugaru's artistic assets are not open source, therefore Lugaru as a whole cannot be sold by other people. This is not just a case of douchebaggery, but outright illegal activity.
I'm not 100% certain of the legalese involved, but if something is open source, doesn't it simply mean that you can check out the code, make mods, etc, as long as you're not selling it and making a profit? In any case, from what I've read, the guy ripping off Wolfire seems pretty confident that his interpretation of what open source means allows him to do whatever he wants with it - but it sounds like your bog-standard 'there is a loophole or technicality in the laws that govern this shit that I'm taking advantage of to make a quick buck off someone else's work'. That's just my interpretation of what he was quoted as saying, however.
