At last took the last step of getting accommodation sorted; all done. Looking forward to it!

Last time I posted in October I decided to go in a new direction which I never quite got around to. However last month I returned to the game as it was and added some nice tweaks around things like the camera, which brought the game to life. Over the following couple weeks I polished it up and tried to fix all the bugs etc.

I now think of this as a little 10 minute prequel to the other ideas I will get around to if people like this taste. Let me know what you think: what sucks, what could be better and what perhaps has potential.

Came across this recently, found the art, animation & music really inspiring. Not sure if they are pursuing it any farther, tried to contact the devs. I definitely hope so!

6  Developer / DevLogs / Re: Shu, Secret Lunch on: December 23, 2012, 01:45:27 PM
Cheers guys!

This looks awesome, Kinda reminds me of Okami in the style which is a very good thing!
:D Definitely an influence. We literally took the colour of the deep red sky from an Okami art book we had. The wind is something we looked at specifically too, along with a few other games.

And mechanics working thematically with the plot and visuals, so good.
That's awesome to hear already, it's something we're really focused on.

Hey guys. Been working on 'Shu' with a few people since November & just uploaded our first video yesterday to www.secret-lunch.com . Would love to get some feedback. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi_ztbz3AH8

We're making a 2.5D game about the torrential end of the world  (in the vein of Klonoa rather than the much more common completely straight side-on ones). You play Shu who with the rest of his village is being chased by a monstrous and unrelenting storm. There's a strong focus on wind/air mechanics and also how saving or not lost travelers affects your journey and how the completely text-less story develops.

Right now the video is primarily focused on setting the feel, there's much more gameplay to come.

Haha, thanks man. Trippy & zen are two things I'd definitely like to hit.

These shots are from the latest version of the game with a linear level; some recent playtests have encouraged me to possible scrap that as being perhaps too constraining. I might go back to the more open exploratory ideas I had in the beginning. Will see where it leads.
9  Developer / Feedback / Fuaim - done! on: October 21, 2012, 03:26:27 AM
Ed:: - Just added a downloadable link on my website: http://www.feltthought.com/fuaim

Hi folks,

Thought I'd share a teaser for a game I'm creating in my spare time and get some feedback.
https://vimeo.com/51636072

It's essentially a very loose platformer where every surface has its own gravity force. Moving through the game generates music as you search and peel back the layers of the world.

I hope to keep this thread updated as I work on the game over the coming couple of months, next getting to grips with using Pure Data for the music/sound.
10  Developer / Feedback / Beggar, Beats, Baby on: April 21, 2012, 06:34:44 AM
Hello all!

This is a game made a couple weeks ago for molyjam and finished the day after. Thought it might be nice to link it and get some thoughts. Molypage here & play here.

The game,is originally based on a tweet about stealing animations and we added a jigging peter molyneux! You can time your frames to possess a character in the level and grow your animation chain longer and longer: Baby beats Bride, Bride beats Beggar, Beggar beats Baby and Green Pixel beats all!

Let me know what you think. Smiley

I prefer to think positively and I think that if everyone did that things would be a lot better for everyone.

As a judge and an entrant, I liked the mandatory feedback rule and was disappointed that it was lifted this year. It proves that people have played a game enough to comment, which is my personal threshold of whether a game has been given enough time. Never mind that e.g. some judges just don't like some types of games, or are not good judges, or whatever - at least this rule ensures people have played a game enough to form an opinion that can go into 100 words. If you can't play 16 games over a month or two enough to write 100 words on each, consider not being a judge.
Definitely.

Entrants should have to enter their games into the individual categories. In this respect we would have some initial self-selection by entrants themselves - if I'd made a game that had mind-blowing level design or game mechanics, but graphics that looked like Asteroids, I'd not be expecting a nomination in 'Visual Art' but would consider entering in the 'Design' category. This would enable judges to approach a game in the right frame of mind, and not dismiss games that look, sound, or play a certain way just because of that one failing. It also would make people think harder about whether their game is competitive in each of the categories and ultimately if it is actually worth entering the game at all (many games entered in the IGF are not worth entering in my opinion).
Now this is something I think IGF should strongly consider, it would help with a lot of problems in my opinion.

It would help alleviate judging games under every category pointlessly and let games be judged, sooner by more applicable judges to that category, on what they think themselves possibly worthy of merit (eg: a Nouvo award and not its graphical fidelity).

Perhaps it costs half the current price to enter one category, but obviously that stacks by entering more. Even under the same pricing structure I think it would help though.

The grand prize could still be nominated from all the games entered to the other categories, and a game could possibly be nominated into another category as well if enough judges think it apt?

Got mah ticket. Had a great time last time, so looking forward to it!

I have a couple things in mind I'd like to make, but there's always the 3-hour game jams too... Coffee

I've just booked a Travelodge room for the weekend (so I won't be subjecting other YHA-goers to my snoring this time!).
Tongue You were a fine roommate!

I'd be happy to share the twin room with you Attila, sounds perfect! Emailed. Smiley

Dayum, there's so much indie love going on in London that weekend between the Wild Rumpus, A Bit of Alright and this, that I might just make the trip down.  Gentleman

Aw man didn't realise there was a deadline. I'll probably still post my list when I finish it. Nice final tally, but no love for The Wager? I suppose it's easy to remember the Isaacs and Bastions rather than all the flash ones we've played in the last year.
