1  Feedback / DevLogs / Re: Pioneers (New build: Feb 25) on: February 25, 2013, 07:39:50 PM
So I was told to check out the game and downloaded it without really any idea what it was. I played through the tutorial and ran into a couple issues with my ability to figure things out:

1. The text went away before I was able to read it all several times.
2. I didn't realize it was turn based so got confused when my character stopped moving.
3. I didn't notice the ramps when I went to avoid the wolf and got stuck for a bit.
4. I'm not sure if I missed an easy way to use food/drink but it was a bit cumbersome.

I love the music! Very well done, with everything so far and I look forward to playing through the game!

Thanks for the feed back!

In regards to the issue of initial movement and having units that can't do anything because they're behind other units, I was planning on setting up the maps so that units spawn more appropriately, ie soldiers up front, warriors in back ect. Do you think that would resolve the issue or just change it?

I do plan on having a tutorial as well as a very much scaled down start to the campaign. That was a map I put together to test the concept of asymmetrical maps and to give an idea of how the campaign would work. You are absolutely correct that I should have given an intro level when I released it for other people to have a look at. I'll try to get that set up before my next release.

I do hope to have real art for the project, a friend of mine started working on reskinning the game. He has a lot of it done and it does look awesome, he wants to have all of the art done before releasing it so I can't show it off so far. In the mean time working on my own art skills is useful, while far from great (very far from great) I'm much better at it than I was at the start of the project and if I keep working on it hopefully I'll work my way up to decent!

Familiarity is a killer for getting a good balance, especially for the beginning of a game and I have been trying to get people I know to play the game and give feedback, preferably with me sitting next too them. But so far I've had little luck in that department. I do plan on making the first level trivial and slowly adding units to what the player can use and of course increasing the number of enemies and other challenges to increase the difficulty of the game as you move through the campaign.

Thanks again!

A new build of Lothar's War has been posted with improved AI, UI appearance, a new map that is more designed for the campaign itself in the final release. I hope you enjoy!

Lothar's War has similar game play to a tactical RPG, minus the leveling up of units. Everything in the game I did myself, art, sound effects, as well as programming. I have set it up so that you can define the data path in the options.ini, so the game can be reskinned.

This is more or less a tech demo of the game I'm working on Lothar's War. Most of the game mechanics are in place and I am finishing polish elements of the combat. I want to start on the campaign in the next couple of weeks after I have finished the combat. I would like any and all feedback on the game mechanics, balance and the user experience.

You can get the game from my website.

Thank you!
