So far I've made it to the 8th floor once. Sometimes I just get screwed over and can't make a move that lets me not get hit, even from spawn (enemy spawns diagonally from me and I'm boxed in, my only choice is to move next to it, goblin right next to entrance). Also, it sometimes produces tight corridors where the only strategy is to move back and forth and wait. It is pretty enjoyable though.

The only other thing I have to say at the moment is that while most of the art is pretty neat, the player character looks a bit like a horse with a giant human head (though I might be nuts) and the fireball looks like a slice of pizza.

Alright, I'm officially out of ideas Tongue

A dev account on Kongregate is literally just uploading the game and putting in the description, etc. You don't even have to enter your info until you want the money.

I don't need any more games...

14MB is serviceable, I suppose. Kongregate will, at least, accept it.

But if your audio files aren't making up the majority of the size, you should try to make sure the game is in its own bubble, and that nothing unnecessary is in there. Maybe make a whole new folder somewhere else and move what you need.

You're not, like, accessing your "My Pictures (or equivalent)" to get the graphics, right?

Do we like the highlight?

There's also the possibility of duplicate files, or another whole thing stuck inside the game files. If this seems ridiculous to you, it's not to me because I'm pretty bad with that

Heh, no it doesn't sound ridiculous at all. And I wouldn't be surprised if that was a majority of the problem. I'm now beginning to wonder if that extra library (flashpunk) is taking up a lot of space. I don't use it (i think) so it's safe to delete. Unless, it doesn't get comopiled? I'm wondering about that.

The bg IS tiled and not a pic, right?

It is a tilemap if that's what your asking. Do unused files in the folders get compiled with the swf? The biggest text file is 30k, and the biggest pic is 13k. So I dunno there.

I use flixel, which is similar, and it doesn't take up too much. Lots of complex games use flashpunk and don't have problems with size.

I don't know if flash will include other files, but it's worth a shot to clean them out (make a backup, obviously, if it's important things Tongue).

Your pictures don't seem to be the problem, so that leaves only sfx and music if it's not messy files. Take a look at some of the file sizes on the tracks. I had a problem with this in my first game, with a 7MB song, the whole game was maybe 7.5MB. In my next game I compressed the song from 6MB to 2MB (144kbps to 64 kbps). If you can get the same level of compression, 7 or 8MB is a fairly reasonable size.

I read the manual all the way through.

Are you sure it's not the music? Since it's chiptune lowering the bitrate won't do much to the quality, but if you know what you're doing in that regard don't mind me.

The only thing that could take up that much memory is assets. If it's not music or sounds, it has to be art. The bg IS tiled and not a pic, right?

A tileset for a WRPG in the vein of Elder Scrolls.

I decided that the world needs a 2D Elder Scrolls-like game, so I'm slowly willing one into existence. Right now my main project is figuring out how to do walls. I hate walls. I recently realized I can use danc's free set for reference, so that's been helping some.

In case anyone cares to look at my first attempt at tile creation, here's an album:

The really screwy looking one is the placeholder semi-functional wall tile set.

Figured out an interesting medium to tell a story I've wanted to tell.

What is it? Hmmm?

Hahaha, that was beautiful.

Not unless I get all of them.

Grape or strawberry jelly?

Game Maker probably has the most tutorials, but there are a few flash devs here and enough tutorials to live on.

Very carefully. Lean the compass as you go so you're dragging the pencil along the paper with just enough force.

Is that right?

As a general rule, learning to program is probably beneficial. You do not, however, NEED to learn to program. There are game makers that don't strictly require it. Stencyl and The Games Factory come to mind.

More ability to program means more freedom and flexibility.

I did read all the posts, but he said what he said, and in any case, he's still wrong. At the end of the day, 'idea guys' as he puts it, are pretty much designers. And yes, I know what he's referring to when he said that, kids who are overambitious, but to call them 'idea guys' is just ridiculous, as that's a key part of being a designer. Try to not jump the gun next time, Byth.

No, I think he was referencing people who come up with the concept of the game. He misinterpreted what people meant by "designer" certainly, but he's already corrected himself. You don't need to make the same exact point to the same person, it's just redundant.

Yeah, I have a morbid curiosity about this too^

In the wee hours of the morning today I made (and edited) some more tiles. They still need a lot of work, but I'm getting better.

I also have a wall tile, but it's shamefully bad.
